Product Manager - Rapid Prototyping (Samara)
What is the future of Airbnb? What should we build in 2018? In 2019 and beyond? How might we help Airbnb achieve its mission of creating a world where anyone can belong anywhere through innovative and entrepreneurial means? Come work with a rapid prototyping studio within Airbnb that explores new products and features for Airbnb on a 1-3 year horizon. We identify big opportunities, leveraging design sprints, research, and engineering to prototype new products and ultimately influence business leaders to invest in new areas. We focus on ideas promoting community, trust, and enriching connections between people, and we investigate emerging technological platforms to find novel solutions.
We are looking for an organized, entrepreneurial Product Manager who can help set the strategic direction for research and development of a future suite of Airbnb’s products.
Key Responsibilities
• Identify strategic opportunities for growth adjacent to the Airbnb core business.
• Develop a framework for evaluating new opportunities and identifying which of those opportunities merit further research and development.
• Perform market validation and develop business cases for investing in new opportunities.
• Act as a conduit between researchers, designers, and engineers to take a new product idea from concept to prototype, while holding all sides accountable.
• Define product roadmaps for new prototypes, develop success metrics, and set expectations with all stakeholders.
• Interact with a complex set of stakeholders throughout the business, and dynamically lead the team to define and deliver solutions.
• Anticipate bottlenecks, making tradeoffs and balancing the business needs versus technical or operational constraints.
• Work with team leads to develop the team’s strategy and long-term goals.
• Do whatever is necessary; general manager / co-founder / owner mentality.
Required Qualifications
• 5+ years building consumer products in a product management role
• Entrepreneurial drive and demonstrated ability to achieve stretch goals in an innovative and fast-paced environment
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Ability to narrate a compelling story about the problem you’re solving and the vision you’re reaching for, combined with the ability to dive into the details
Preferred Qualifications
• Passion for and experience in research and developing new technologies and new products
• Ability to influence decisions of business leaders and founders, leading the business to evaluate and invest in new products
• Thought leader & entrepreneur: someone that others look to for knowledge on new frameworks, technologies, and methods for innovation specifically
• Expert analyst: Ability to survey a field of options and evaluate the potential of early stage ideas, including new technologies, based on facts, estimates, and the added factor of experience and intuition
