Director of Accounting - Programming
Cumulus Media - Corporate Officeis looking for aDirector of Accounting - Programming. The Director of Accounting - Programming is responsible for overseeing the General Accounting and Internal Financial Reporting functions for the Programming Department. She or he is also responsible for maintaining our system of internal controls, within Programming Department accounting, that will ensure company assets are adequately safeguarded and that all financial reporting is prepared in compliance with all company financial policies and US GAAP.
Duties and Responsibilities
The position will oversee the general accounting function of the Programming Department, which includes the Programming Department journal entries, maintenance of the general ledger and the associated sub-ledgers, reconciliation of accounts, internal financial reporting, balance sheet management and the calculation of amounts due to various Performance Rights Organizations.
The position will also be responsible for the maintenance of the Programming Department’s contracts database, which houses contracts for Talent, Broadcast Rights, and contracts with the various Performance Rights Organization. The person in the position will be accountable for ensuring the contract terms are being administered correctly and the associated payments are correct and made timely.
The role will be accountable for ensuring that SOX policies and procedures (internal controls) are in place, and working, to provide reasonable assurance that the company’s assets are protected.
The role will be responsible for the proper timing and application of revenue recognition rules related to NASH division entities and NASH revenue generating initiatives. This currently entails a real-time review of each initiative and its terms for any changes needed and a determination of the proper timing of revenue recognition associated with the delivery of services. This will involve significant interaction with Local/National Sales and with the Westwood One accounting team.
The person will ensure that all company financial records, under responsibility, are maintained in compliance with company policies and US GAAP. The role will be accountable for reviewing monthly/quarterly Income Statements, account reconciliations and other documents to ensure this compliance.
Coordination of work relating to both internal and external audits, relating to the finances of the Programming Department, in the periodic review of the company financial records is required. The role is further responsible for the implementation of agreed upon process improvement recommendations, related to areas of responsibility, resulting from the audit findings
Degree/Licenses:
Undergraduate degree in Accounting, plus CPA certification
Prior Experience:
• 5 - 10 years of combined Public Accounting and Private Industry, complex/multiple lines of business, accounting experience
• Prior management experience required. Manager experience in public accounting will satisfy experience requirement.
• Demonstrated ability to form, lead and develop high-performing teams.
• Ability to work collaboratively across departmental functions
• Experience in analyzing business performance and developing financial plans within a fast-paced and changing environment desirable.
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP, internal controls and internal financial reporting, required.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills are mandatory
SPECIFIC SKILLS REQUIRED:
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access), with demonstrated expertise in complex Excel-based financial modeling.
• Strong analytical abilities and a results orientation.
• Strong systems experience - Great Plains, Workday, Adaptive Insights, or similar platforms
• Proficient in active communication and possession of solid interpersonal skills.
• Strong organizational skills, project/task management experience and cross-functional coordination skills.
