Position Overview
This position will have direct reporting responsibilities for financial, operational, and sales performance in two to five hotels in a city or area, in addition to managing the daily operational and sales activities of the full-service event technology operation currently assigned. Fully understand that responsibility for base Hotel operations is first priority, and manage issues, questions, requests, etc. at additional locations as time allows away from direct responsibilities at base Hotel location. This position will report to a Regional Vice President of Operations.
Leadership role includes communication of regional policy and company initiatives; developing plans for personal and professional growth of team members; achievement of customer satisfaction goals; building relationships with key hoteliers; promoting an integrated sales approach between PSAV and the hotels; and implementing strategies to maximize revenue and profitability.
Key Job Responsibilities
Operations
Oversee daily floor operations at the base Hotel and assists with audio visual set-up and services. Set and strike equipment as necessary and ensure room sets are completed according to PSAV standards. Maintain a working knowledge of new technology and equipment. Attend base Hotel department meetings and pre-convention meetings. Send follow-up notes recapping meetings with Hotel Executive management. Ensure audio visual office and showroom at base Hotel are kept clean, neat and organized. Ensure inventory control procedures are being maintained so that equipment is secure at all times. Evaluate equipment purchase requests and elevate for approvals. Demonstrate and champion the practice of transferring equipment and labor to reduce sub-rental and payroll costs. Participate in weekly scheduling calls/meetings to arrange labor coverage to help maximize profitability. Review and approve timekeeping information at base Hotel.
Update partnership sites and pricing information for base Hotel’s event technology brochure, and ensure other Hotel locations completely update their information as needed. Communicate PSAV’s marketing tools and initiatives to key Hotel staff members. Perform and reinforce PSAV’s brand messaging and standards.
Team Leadership and Development
In addition to directly supervising, coaching, and mentoring Event Technology Team Members at base Hotel location, will maintain a positive employee relations environment for all Event Technology and Business Center team members at all locations under his/her responsibility. Ensure all performance evaluations are completed on a timely basis; maintain adequate staffing levels, and facilitate team development. Complete and deliver performance reviews of all Team Members at base Hotel location on time, and together with the RVP Ops complete reviews for DET’s at additional locations under his/her supervision. Create development plans with team to enhance their skills and performance and improve service levels, and assist DET’s at other Hotel locations when needed. Address employee relations issues in a timely manner and with a developmental approach. Identify Team Members ready for succession planning process. Recommend staffing changes, transfers and promotions and participate in the interview process for qualified candidates.
Coach all Team Members for area of responsibility to achieve quality results on Hotel and FLEX surveys. Recognize and reward exemplary service performed by Team Members. Solicit and share ideas from Team Members on how to improve PSAV’s operation; provide direct follow-up with employees at base location and work with DET’s at other locations on outcomes. Champion and utilize PSAV’s culture statement to positively influence Team Member behavior and values. Regularly connect with the PSAV locations and openly and honestly communicate with Team Members. Promote a “one team” approach across all business lines within the company. Organize and participate in team meetings. Communicate and achieve Hotel’s goals and objectives. Communicate annual incentive programs to all relevant Team Members in area of responsibility and track goals.
Lead by example in portraying a polished, professional image according to the guidelines in the Team Member Handbook.
Build strong relationships with DET’s, ADET’s and DOS’s in assigned Hotels, and provide ways to help these individuals develop skills necessary for their success. This includes being a mentor for new employees, or DET’s.
Hotel Partnership
Foster working long term relationships with Hotel management. Meet with key staff on a regular basis to obtain candid feedback on PSAV’s performance. Promote an integrated sales approach between PSAV and the Hotel. Schedule and participate with the RVP Ops. in conducting semi-annual Executive Business Reviews. Address and provide solutions for concerns communicated by the Hotel or customer. Plan visits as needed to Hotel’s in area and schedule meetings with Exec. Mgmt. at these locations when appropriate.
Financial Management
Monitor revenue and expenses against forecasted sales. Utilize Oracle and Helios to run financial and usage report for review with DET’s. Analyze and communicate the monthly financial results with each PSAV team, recognizing positive performance and identifying areas for improvement. Prioritize year over year growth in revenue, EBITDA, AGP and AGP flow-through when discussing financial performance with DET’s and Sales Managers. Coordinate invoicing at base Hotel and ensures that it is accurate and signed by customers. Ensure billing at base Hotel is properly posted according to the Hotel’s procedures.
Sales
Participate in capture rate discussions and suggests ways to capture lost business. Assist RVP ES and Sales Manager in securing business at risk and RFP opportunities when appropriate. Support the RVP ES in making recommendations to Sales Managers to produce creative sales proposals in order to achieve higher revenues and capture rates. Make recommendations with the Sales Manager and RVP ES to establish and meet revenue goals.
Required Skills:
Required Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree is preferred
• High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED), related technical coursework, certifications and/or training is required
• 4 years of experience in a Director role managing the operations in the Event Technology department, preferably in a hotel environment
• 2 years of experience managing the operations of a $1M+ Event Technology department
• Experience handling pre-planning and operations of large audio visual events
• Working knowledge of audio visual equipment in a live show environment
• As a DET, has demonstrated strong relationships with Hotel Mgmt.
• As a DET, has demonstrated above average results in both customer service and financial performance.
• Must have strong Sales and Operational leader at base location
• Possess strong written and verbal communication skills
• Must have proven track record at employee development and succession planning
• A valid driver’s license is required for team members that operate company vehicles
• Proficiency with the use of computer hardware
• Proficiency with computer software and programs, including the Internet and Microsoft Office
