Description
The American Friends of the Paris Opera & Ballet seeks to facilitate the sharing of the many treasures of the Opera National de Paris, its Academy, its Ballet School and museum directly with the American public and to foster artistic cooperation between the Paris Opera and the creative community in the United States. Based in New York, the organization is supported by contributions, grants, and bequests from individuals, foundations, and corporations.
We are seeking an Executive Director who will be responsible for interacting with our donors and key artistic and administrative staff of the Opera National de Paris and cultural institutions in the United States. The Executive Director will work closely with the board of Trustees of AFPOB to help identify, plan, fund and implement the projects that further AFPOB’s mission. The Executive Director must also assist in the evaluation of potential Grantees, the selection of potential organizations and institutions to receive support and to set up partnerships and collaborations. Financial responsibilities include assisting with budgeting, record keeping, and the preparation of the annual audit and tax returns. Fundraising will involve research, cultivation and the creation of proposals to current and potential sources of contributed income, including individuals, corporations and foundations for both project and general support. The Director will help oversee the provision of benefits to donors, as well as the maintenance and growth of the database, and will also help plan and implement special fundraising and cultivation events, such as galas, receptions and patron trips to Paris and other locations. Updating and expanding AFPOB’s website and social media presence, creating newsletters, brochures and other forms of communication with donors, the public and the press are additional responsibilities. Occasional travel to France may be necessary.
Qualifications:
Qualified applicants must have an undergraduate college degree and preferably a post-graduate degree or post-graduate work, and at least four years of relevant experience, especially in fundraising.
The ideal candidate is energetic, imaginative, and committed to the mission of the organization. S/he is knowledgeable about the field of ballet and opera, experienced in the management and operations of cultural institutions, and has strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. S/he is accomplished in building patron relations, has a demonstrated record in fundraising, has strong administrative skills and has strong communication skills. French speakers are preferred but not required.
