POSITION SUMMARY
The Marketing Designer position offers a mix of print and digital marketing design work for several of Heinemann’s product divisions. We are a small team of designers working on a diverse set of projects—typically managing three to five projects at once and often under tight deadlines. In addition to having solid design expertise and the software skills listed under the Required Qualifications section, the ideal candidate will
• collaborate with other designers and product managers across different teams;
• work on projects with varying amounts of creative freedom—projects that are open for creative interpretation, projects that are more directed or templated, and production work;
• organize and prioritize projects to meet deadlines without compromising quality or accuracy;
• explore new design trends and learn new skills, techniques, and software; and
• have a positive, flexible, helpful attitude and excellent communication skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Work with project managers and other colleagues to design thoughtful, beautiful, and informative print marketing pieces appropriate to the product brand. Types of projects include catalogs, brochures, postcards, advertisements, infographics, white papers, study guides, order forms, tradeshow signage, and promotional items. Related tasks include sourcing stock photography/illustration, photo retouching, color correcting and image isolation, and preparing files for print production.
• Design and export eye-catching digital images for the web, email marketing, and social media, adhering to size and layout limitations.
• Collaborate with marketing and sales teams to conceptualize and design clear and compelling sales presentations.
• Keep files maintained and organized and software up-to-date (with help from our IT department).
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or related field
• Two to five years of design experience
• A solid understanding of graphic design and typography principles demonstrated through an online portfolio of work
• Advanced skills in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Acrobat, and Illustrator on a Mac platform
• Proficient in file preparation for print production
• Familiarity with sizing and exporting digital graphics for the web and social media
• Intermediate to advanced skills in PowerPoint on a Mac or PC platform
• Intermediate skills in Microsoft Word
HELPFUL QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience setting up photo shoots and/or photography skills—both lifestyle and product photography
• Copywriting, editing, or proofreading experience
• Experience in the educational field
• Familiarity with Google Docs and Sheets
• Package design experience
• Experience building interactive presentations (HTML 5 or apps, for example)
• User experience (UX) skills
• Illustration skills
