Since its establishment over two decades ago Lehmann Maupin has identified and cultivated the careers of an international roster of visionary and historically significant artists. The gallery has garnered a reputation for supporting artists working across disciplines and with new and challenging forms of creative expression; artists whose work has had a lasting impact on contemporary art and culture.
Lehmann Maupin is seeking an Assistant to join the New York Communications team. Candidate will directly support the Director of Communications, and will also work closely with the Social Media & Marketing Associate and Press & PR Associate.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Record and update Director’s emails and contacts in database
- Assist in drafting and managing email flow for Director
- Provide additional general gallery assistance as needed (i.e. answer phone, front desk coverage, etc.)
- Maintain and coordinate departmental schedules and calendars, including Director’s appointments and deadlines
- Generate itineraries and run-of-show documents for events, art fairs, exhibitions, etc.
- Assist in events invitation mail outs, compiling RSVPs, and managing event guest lists and face books
- Manage press listings
- Create and compile detailed art fair VIP event calendars and distribute to relevant staff
- Assist Director and Press & PR Associate with incoming image requests.
- Sit in on weekly calls with Asia teams, as well as external PR firms
- Assist Director in organizing domestic and international travel
- Update artist CVs (on website, server, and Artbinder)
- Compile and create daily art news roundups for staff
- Liaise with gallery assistants and artist liaison team on content for gallery calendars
- Liaise with Archivists in press scanning and clippings
- Assist in events coordination and production
- Organize and execute mailings, including catalogues and press packs to journalists
- Assist with research for writing projects
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 1-3 years experience in a similar role at a museum, non-profit arts organization, or major commercial gallery ideal
- Able to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced, high-pressure, international environment
- Highly organized, detail oriented, punctual, and with a professional demeanor
- Superior writing and verbal communication skills
- A team player and comfortable taking initiative
- Proficient in Mac OS, MS Office, and Gmail/Google Docs
- Proficient in social media platforms a plus, particularly Instagram
- Knowledge of FileMaker Pro/Artbase a plus
- Language skills a plus, particularly Mandarin
