Role & Responsibilities
The Sr. Manager, Payroll will report into Finance and manage a small but experienced team of payroll analysts. The ideal candidate will be an experienced senior manager who will help take domestic and international payroll to the next level and help scale the department as Airbnb continues its robust growth. This leader will work closely with multiple business partners in accounting, tax, benefits, comp, equity, recruiting, mobility and more to ensure the timely and accurate reporting of all things payroll related.
The Responsibilities:
• Manage all domestic and Canada payroll operations related to employee compensation and benefits. This includes processing of US and Canada bi-weekly payroll for exempt and non-exempt workers, researching discrepancies and identifying and resolving payroll-related issues. Experience with international payrolls outside of US highly desirable
• Partner closely with all aspects of HR (Benefits, Ops, Comp, Recruiting) to assist with new benefits and comp plan rollouts are implemented accurately and efficiently
• Coordinate with HR to keep all payroll records accurate and up to date
• Perform monthly payroll close duties, including reviewing the preparation of period-end accruals and monthly journal entries for all payroll and benefits, including preparation of reconciliations of payroll and benefit accounts
• Provide formal and ad-hoc analysis of payroll, benefits, and headcount
• Continuously identify and develop solutions for process efficiency and improved productivity
• Maintain compliance with all Federal, State and local payroll tax laws
• Familiarity with international payroll rules and willingness to learn
• Familiar with the processing of income deriving from equity instruments (Option NQ, etc. etc) in US and foreign jurisdictions
• Out of cycle/ad hoc payments of employees and production and issuance of manual checks or electronic transfers to bank accounts.
• Ownership of all payroll processes and procedures including analysis, design & implementation of changes to ensure continuous improvement in accuracy and efficiency, best practice operations and compliance with company policies.
• Produce audit reports to validate payroll data integrity meeting SOX requirements.
• Support annual Financial Statement audit, 401k audit, Workers Comp audit, and other audits as required.
• Respond to employee inquiries and requests regarding payroll matters
• Manage annual preparation and delivery of Form W-2s and 1099’s
• Approve all month and quarter end payroll accounting entries and responsible for monthly/quarterly payroll flux analysis
The Requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business and/or equivalent combination of education and experience. CPP preferred.
• 12+ years experience managing processing multi-state payroll and international payroll experience required
• 4+ years experience managing a team of payroll analysts in dynamic environment
• Hands on experience with Workday Payroll/HCM and ADP Smart Compliance
• Highly analytical with strong working knowledge of general payroll protocols, accounting principles and Federal, State and local regulations.
• Advanced skills and demonstrated expertise supporting best practice global payroll processes, systems, policies and key internal controls.
• CPP certification preferred
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – able to work effectively with executives and staff and manage external service providers
• Proven team player who thrives on working hard with like-minded colleagues in a very collaborative environment
