Publicity Assistant - Avery, TarcherPerigee
The Avery and TarcherPerigee imprints within Penguin Random House are seeking a Publicity Assistant to join their team! This role is tasked with organizing the logistics of author tours, securing various media, and performing general administrative duties. Supporting the Associate Publisher and Director of Publicity, the Assistant will work on a wide variety of nonfiction titles in the health, wellness, science, psychology, and self-help categories, and is an incredible opportunity to work with distinguished authors on a wide variety of books!
Specific responsibilities include:
1. Supporting the Associate Publisher and Director of Publicity on publicity campaigns for lead titles.
2. Pitching and scheduling author events, coordinating travel and hotel accommodations for touring authors, and creating detailed tour schedules and distributing to media escorts.
3. Pitching and securing national and regional media under the direction of supervisor.
4. Writing press materials, including press releases and pitch letters.
5. Maintaining an internal publicity database by updating media contacts, creating detailed logs of publicity projects, inputting all confirmed events and author appearances, etc.
6. Researching online outlets and unique publicity and marketing opportunities.
7. Executing galleys, review copies, and tour mailings.
8. Submitting invoices and bills to the Accounting team on behalf of the department.
9. Fielding backlist requests and responding to a variety of media, author, and bookseller questions.
10. Performing general administrative duties as needed, including billings, filing, record keeping, expense reports, etc.
Please apply if you meet the following minimum requirements:
• Prior publicity or marketing internship experience a plus
• Genuine interest in publicity and book publishing
• Familiarity with media, news, and online organizations
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong attention to detail and project management skills
• Ability to meet deadlines, multitask, and prioritize
• Understanding of social media as a marketing tool
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Wordpress
• Knowledge of SAP a plus
• Familiarity with Photoshop and/or InDesign a plus
