Job Description
KING Media Group is looking for a great storyteller who excels on all screens – broadcast, online and on social media. We want a journalist who can create unique and shareable stories through memorable writing and creative collaboration with KING 5’s award-winning photojournalists and editors.
The successful candidate should be an accomplished journalist accustomed to writing daily news stories under deadline pressure. Another critical responsibility is finding and pitching strong stories every day, with a focus on unique and exclusive content that distinguishes KING from its competitors.
KING 5 expects the strongest possible on-air presentation skills. Reporters who are already adding to their personal skillsets, from shooting and editing their own work to developing data journalism skills, will have a leg up on the competition for this position.
Job Requirements
Job Requirements:
• BA/BS in journalism, communications or related field
• 5-7 years of experience preferred
• Strong writing and communication skills.
• Solid understanding of the fundamentals of professional journalism
• A portfolio with examples demonstrating strong delivery of breaking news on all platforms, including stories produced specifically for the online and mobile audience.
• A portfolio that showcases the reporter’s storytelling skills (feature and enterprise stories).
• Ability to generate creative, engaging, content-driven live shots
• Strong social media skills, including an active news hound presence on Twitter and Facebook
• Knowledge of ENPS and Sony XPRI video editing system are a plus.
• Organizational skills and the ability to work under constant time pressure deadlines
• Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news situations and changing events
• Develop original content through social listening and independent sources.
• Interview news subjects and conduct research for facts and credibility.
• Develop news sources for general assignment and special areas of interest.
• Promotes teamwork and maintains attitude of cooperation with all station personnel
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends and holidays
• Perform other tasks as required by supervisors.
