Job Summary
CenturyLink’s internship program is a 10 week, fast-paced and exciting opportunity to gain professional experience within your field of study. CenturyLink is currently seeking part-time interns (20 hours per week) for the Spring 2018 session. Interns within the Product Development and Technology department will be challenged to apply their knowledge gained in the classroom to real world problems. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands on experience working on real world Innovation Initiatives for a Fortune 200 company. This position will allow students to utilize their talents and abilities to innovate on products that are tied to active projects at CenturyLink.
Job Description
• Perform hands on development of innovative data analytics and data drive solutions and/or products.
• Create proof of concepts for delivering value via data science.
• Prepare and present articles, reports, and presentations.
• Do data discovery; iterate on data views and make changes to identify the best overall solutions
• Gather requirements and do the requisite mock ups, ad hoc work, and data modeling (i.e., strong at both client engagement and data aggregations and data mapping).
• Develop and maintain data and databases to support data analysis and advanced analysis as a data foundation for machine learning.
• Explain complex analysis to non-technical stakeholders.
• Communicate with pictures; diagrams; and in writing in a way that makes it easy to understand complex situations and provides useful solutions.
• Ask good questions that help with problems solving.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
• Pursuing a Bachelors, Masters or Doctorate Degree in Statistics, Data Science, Big Data, Machine Learning, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or Related Field at an accredited College or University
• Academic and/or work experience related to the field of research, as defined by the University representative/reference.
• 3.0 or above cumulative GPA.
• Excellent English oral and written communications skills.
• Must be self-motivated, inquisitive, highly analytical, organized, and detail-oriented with strong time management skills and ability to meet project timelines in a fast-paced environment.
• Analysis skills; asking good questions; following up in a constructive and productive manner.
• Good teamwork skills.
• Desire to learn and deliver Advanced Analytics solutions including machine learning.
• Must ensure confidentiality of information.
• Spark, Matrix math, Numpy, sklearn, keras, pandas and other common data and machine learning Python 2.7 and/or python 3.5 and related libraries.
• Use python, Jupyter notebooks, and/or Splunk to review, analyze, and modify data including mining, descriptive analysis, preparation of data for analytics, and documentation of terabytes of data science analysis.
• Working with data in a Hadoop environment using SQL, Spark, Hive, Impala, and other languages and formats to support machine learning algorithms.
• Demonstrates high personal work standards.
• Has a track record as a self-starter with the ability to work well with minimal direction and the discipline to meet deadlines on time.
• Strong listening, written and verbal communication skills
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Professional Attitude.
Optional Qualifications:
• Experience programming in JAVA, C++, d3 JavaScript
• Experience with HDFS; Impala; Hue; Hive, HBase, Yarn, RDD, and other Hadoop components and concepts.
