Description
At Pearson, we’re committed to a world that’s always learning and to our talented team who makes it all possible. From bringing lectures vividly to life to turning textbooks into laptop lessons, we are always re-examining the way people learn best, whether it’s one child in our own backyard or an education community across the globe. We are bold thinkers and standout innovators who motivate each other to explore new frontiers in an environment that supports and inspires us to always be better. By pushing the boundaries of technology — and each other to surpass these boundaries — we create seeds of learning that become the catalyst for the world’s innovations, personal and global, large and small.
Pearson is seeking an online business leader to spearhead a step-function improvement in the impact of our North America web presence. This person will serve as the Vice President of North America Online Business, leading a 20+ person organization. They’ll have significant ownership of our online evolution, both strategic and tactical. This is an ideal role for someone with a history of success in running an established web business, who is interested in building and accelerating what is currently a relatively nascent source of growth for Pearson.
The overarching goal of this role is driving revenue and leads for most of Pearson’s North America business units, while also boosting our brand and value delivery among key customer segments. This leader will collaborate with cross-functional partners to manage all aspects of the online business including planning, content strategy and development, promotional campaigns and other online marketing, website design, web analytics and web technologies. To accomplish this, responsibilities include:
• · Generating the right volume and quality of traffic for Pearson’s web estate among target audiences
• · Converting student traffic into substantial growth in e-commerce revenue, including P&L ownership for this channel
• · Converting faculty, administrator, and institutional traffic into highly qualified leads for our sales team, including accountability for specific lead volume and quality goals
• · Across all audiences, building sustained engagement to accelerate our brand and the value we deliver customers beyond the e-commerce or lead generation process
• Managing user experience including site navigation, content development, checkout funnel and promotional campaigns
• · Aligning goals and content across Pearson’s North America web estate, including our presence on social platforms
• · Integrating online efforts with full-funnel offline marketing campaigns
• Deeply incorporating analytics and insights to drive all strategic and tactical decisions. Directing web analytics related to eCommerce and lead generation, and communicating relevant information to team members, executive leadership and cross-functional partners
• Participating in development and execution of business plans with other members of marketing and sales teams supporting the omni-channel business strategy
• · Representing North America platform, content, and experience needs into global technology and marketing teams
• · Creating North America-specific content and experiences
• · Building a world class team via a balance of developing internal talent and hiring externally to accelerate skills growth
• Deploying strong business judgment and decision-making skills, in service to identifying, prioritizing, and articulating the highest impact online initiatives Pearson should pursue.
Qualifications
An ideal candidate will have at least five years of experience in online businesses, with two or more of those years leading teams that are accountable for specific business impact. While not required, it’s a plus to have experience in the education industry and/or managing e-commerce in a multi-channel company. You should bring an extensive knowledge of key platforms, trends, partners, and agencies Pearson should consider to accelerate its online business evolution.
