The Product Planning, Development, and Marketing Group includes all the functional areas that work together to develop instructional materials that meet current pedagogical and market needs for PreK-12. Content is developed for a wide range of media formats, including interactive digital media as well as print. Colleagues within PDM have varying expertise including the following: subject-matter expertise across all academic subject areas, design, art and photo management, production management, quality assurance, content engineering, and permissions and licensing.
The HMH Practice-Based Services team brings together world-renowned authors, academics and experts in literacy, mathematics and leadership from two respected organizations- Math Solutions and the International Center for Leadership in Education-to help educators, leaders, and districts raise student achievement.
HMH is looking for a Director of Marketingwho specializes in Practice-Based Services. This role is responsible for the strategic marketing development, direction and communication strategy for HMH’s Practice-based Professional Learning. This leader brings together marketing talent to develop modern marketing strategies for HMH practice-based professional learning including expertise through thought leadership, professional services and publications.
The Director requires superior levels of sophisticated marketing, collaboration skills, strategic thinking, management skills and creative problem solving.
Primary Responsibilities
Marketing Strategy
• Create, monitor and guide the development and implementation of marketing and promotional plans for all practice-based services.
• Plan and ensure the effective implementation of all strategic marketing communications vial all channels (social, web, email, internal/external)
• Guide Sales and the Services Marketing team in the transfer of the strategy to tactical and operational execution.
• Development and execute campaigns surrounding HMH thought leaders, professional services and publications.
Business Analysis
• Manage and monitor effectiveness of marketing plans and promotional campaigns, social media strategies and lead generation strategies.
• Use quantitative data and qualitative analysis to monitor success of campaigns and report out to cross-functional teams regularly.
• Oversee marketing and promotional budget
Collaboration
• Maintain strong, ongoing channels of communication with Sales, Product Marketing, Product Management, Content Development, Digital Marketing, the Agency, Operations, Enablement and other internal departments.
• Lead cross-functional teams to execute marketing plans and promotional campaigns utilizing HMH-wide content. Customer engagement and content usage must be measurable and captured within SFDC.
• Collaborate with colleagues in Digital Marketing to reach potential users through strategic marketing automation campaigns. Determine SEO and analytics requirements to measure engagement within our potential user base.
Competitive & Strategic Analysis
• Analyze markets, marketing opportunities, and competition to develop and implement marketing plans through all relevant channels.
• Anticipate, monitor, and respond to competitive issues. Oversee development of strategic competitive information for Sales and Campaign Marketing.
• Guide market research activities. Incorporate research findings into platform positioning and marketing activities. Inform impact studies, coaching strategy and identify potential pilots.
Education and Experience
• BS/BA
• 7+ years of experience in marketing products and services
• Extensive professional development background and expertise required; deep understanding of market trends and landscape and industry trends
Knowledge and Skills
• Strong management, interpersonal and communication skills; ability to develop relationships and collaborate across the organization
• Ability to work autonomously to identify opportunities and areas for improvement; takes initiative to proactively determine how to execute upon
• Analytical; strong financial acumen and ability to analyze data
• Ability to distill and explain complex technology details simply and clearly to non-technical internal stakeholders and customers
• Self-starter
Additional Requirements
• 35-40% travel required
Physical Requirements
• Might be in a stationary position for a considerable time (sitting and/or standing).
• The person in this position needs to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
• Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
• Must be able to collaborate with colleagues via face to face, conference calls, and online meetings.
