Job Description
The UX Designer at The Wall Street Journal will prioritize and be the voice and advocate of our users. They will empathize with and thoroughly understand the goals, desires and preferences of our target users and use this knowledge to inform concepts and innovative solutions across existing and new projects. The UX Designer will contribute to the user experience practice and evolve the discipline to meet the needs our of projects. Ultimately you will be helping shape the future of how we deliver news to our customers.
Core Responsibilities:
• Facilitate hands on problem solving sessions with product, design, engineering and editorial
• Strong understanding of best-practices as they apply to online content-creation and delivery
• Work with Editorial, Design, Engineering, Product, and Marketing to build in research at multiple stages of the product development process
• Communicate effectively with clarity of thought and be able to prototype quickly from concept sketches and deliver a good user experience
• Work closely with product and engineering teams to build prototypes that represent various solutions required to test and evolve products for user and internal testing
• Design, observe, and analyze usability studies
• Work closely with product managers and engineers to implement and deliver final products
• Develop a research approach, schedule, and detailed plan for each project
• Deliver timely and tangible findings and prioritized recommendations to partners
• Balance company goals with user needs
• Help product teams more deeply understand our users
• Create competitive analysis reports for new and existing products
• Create and develop presentations, wireframes, user journeys, sitemaps and prototypes
Technical Skills & Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in HCI, Communication Design, BFA, or related experience preferred
• 5+ years experience designing user-interfaces for content-rich websites and apps
• Expert-level knowledge of industry standard Web design software (Sketch, Adobe CC, Omnigraffle or other wireframe software)
• Knowledge of prototyping software such as InVision
• Solid grasp of latest Web and App user experience design principles
• Solid understanding of current Web technologies (XHTML, CSS, JavaScript)
