Executive Director Production Safety
The Executive Director Production Safety is responsible for provision of health & safety and environmental consulting to the company’s motion picture, television and new media productions in an overall effort to protect the production workforce and the physical safety of production locations and facilities. Duties include working directly with the VP, EHS and managing four Production Safety staff (direct reports); the development / implementation / management of programs necessary to maintain a healthy, safe and environmentally sound work place, as well as assisting productions’ compliance with all applicable governmental health & safety and environmental regulations and internal policies.
Job Responsibilities:
• Manage 4 direct reports (Production Safety Specialist; Manager, Production Safety x 2; Director, Production Safety);
• Represent the SEHS Department to the company’s motion picture, television and new media productions;
• Provide health & safety and environmental consulting services to the company’s motion picture, television and new media productions;
• Evaluate production concepts, scripts, pitches, etc., for health & safety and environmental concerns;
• Mitigate any concerns by working directly with Production Executives, Producers, Unit Production Managers and other production staff;
• Attend production technical scouts and production meetings:
• Foster long-term, cooperative and trusting working relationships with key production stakeholders nationally and internationally (Producers, UPMs, union safety representatives, etc.)
• Develop and distribute the Production Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP), and Production Safety Manual;
• Provide guidance and advice on production safety matters for other SEHS staff;
• Evaluate production sets, stages and locations for health & safety and environmental concerns;
• Respond to, and investigates production emergencies, incidents and accidents;
• Recommend corrective actions and assists productions in their implementation;
• Coordinate and/or conduct required employee health & safety training;
• Notify applicable governmental regulatory agencies and authorities as appropriate;
• Act as the designated company representative during regulatory agency inspections and investigations;
• Represent the company on the AMPTP Industry-Wide Labor-Management Safety Committee, Safety Action Team and Safety Bulletin drafting / revision subcommittees;
• Work in conjunction with Production Administration, Risk Management, Production Legal, Labor Relations, Sustainability and other company departments with production responsibilities;
• Provide back-up to the VP, EHS and other SEHS department management as necessary.
Knowledge of the following:
• Federal, state and local health & safety and environmental regulations (OSHA, Cal/OSHA, EPA, etc.)
• International health & safety and environmental standards;
• The motion picture and television production process including organizational structure, terminology, equipment, construction methods, stunt activities, rigging principles, special effects techniques, etc.;
Skills In:

• Computer and software skills
Ability to:
• Develop, implement and manage production safety and environmental standards, policies and procedures for productions worldwide.
• Determine the applicable regulations in states and countries where a particular production may be shooting (possibly for the first time);
• Inform key studio and production executives of potential safety and environmental issues associated with productions and provide advice and solutions for these issues.
• Quickly recognize and resolve various production safety issues that arise during the course of normal production activities.
• Partner with risk managers, loss control executives and insurance underwriters to resolve loss prevention issues.
• Develop, implement and manage employee health & safety programs on a wide variety of subjects including employee health & safety training.
• Availability 24-hours-a-day / 7-days-a-week to respond to production needs and other emergencies
• Interact with regulatory agency inspectors, company management, productions, and studio personnel.
Education:
• BA or BS required, BS in a related science field preferred
• Masters degree a plus
• EPA-AHERA Asbestos Inspector accreditation preferred
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification preferred
