USA TODAY NETWORK is one of the top 20 digital companies in the country, sharing the list with Google, Facebook, and Amazon. And we have over 100 million unique visitors a month, which is more than Buzzfeed, Yahoo News, and Huffington Post. Because our team consists of over 110 local properties with USA TODAY at the helm, you’ll have the luxury of living in a community you love while making a national impact.
The Greenville News and the USA Today Network Southeast are looking for a digital producer/social media coordinator to help drive the network’s ongoing and aggressive effort to create a digital-first news gathering approach and engage our audiences on multiple platforms.
Our digital producers work within a regional production hub that produces content from four sites in the USA Today Network’s Southeast region. Producers publish content to our digital platforms; optimize content and headlines for each platform to enhance SEO, ensure broad audience reach and improve readers’ engaged time; serve as copy editors as needed for digital stories; and manage branded social media accounts across the four sites.
Growing our social media audience is a top priority, and as a social media coordinator this person will be responsible for updating our social media strategy and tailoring it to be most effective at each of the four sites. This includes not only working within our branded accounts, but also helping staffers across the region maximize their social media presence to grow engagement for the network and enhance their brand to increase engagement for the content they produce.
You’ll work on ways to engage our audience on traditional platforms, but also on creating ways to grab their attention on emerging and future platforms. We want someone who will think about and experiment in the realms of immersive storytelling, live events and innovative ways to connect through audio and video.
This position reports to our digital editor.
The ideal candidate will have some experience in digital production. We’re looking for someone who understands the need to make snap decisions about digital news and who has the skills to implement ideas on the fly. We want someone who’s willing to experiment – and enjoy the success of that experimentation while learning from the failures. We want to be first, but most importantly we want to be fresh and accurate with the news that’s important in our markets.
A familiarity with metrics and analytics is essential, as is the ability to use that data to shape news decisions and content presentation. We want a digital native who understands how social media and digital content improve our reach and enhance our storytelling.
This position is based in Greenville, the fourth-fastest growing city in the country and a place that recently was named the third-best small city in America. Greenville consistently makes lists of the best places to live and work, and it’s only a short drive from Atlanta, Charlotte, the mountains and the beach.
