Overview
Every day, customers, partners and employees enter Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s corporate headquarters in Boston. As receptionist, you will be responsible for their first impression of our organization. If you enjoy meeting new people and making them feel welcome, and if you like to ensure every phone call is handled with professionalism and every visitor is treated with respect, then this position may be for you!
The successful candidate will be responsible for greeting and directing visitors and employees from the reception desk and ensuring guests have everything they need upon arrival. This person will act as operator for incoming calls to HMH’s corporate headquarters; accept deliveries and notify recipients; and ensure security and cleanliness around the reception area. This person will also perform additional administrative responsibilities as assigned in support of HMH executives and the Corporate Communications department.
This position sits within the HMH Corporate Affairs department and reports to the Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs.
Responsibilities
• Manage the main reception area at HMH headquarters in Boston, maintaining a warm and inviting environment for employees and visitors alike
• Liaise with employees who are expecting visitors; ensure a positive entry experience for those visitors as they arrive
• Answer telephone calls to the Boston headquarters main line, directing callers courteously and effectively
• Administrative and communications support for the HMH executive team and Corporate Affairs department as needed, with tasks that may include but are not limited to scheduling, event logistics, organizational tasks, writing, design and other activities

Education & Experience
• Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent experience
• Previous experience in administrative role also preferred
Physical Requirements
• Might be in a stationary position for a considerable time (sitting and/or standing).
• The person in this position needs to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
• Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
• Must be able to collaborate with colleagues via face to face, conference calls, and online meetings.
