Our product teams are making new discoveries in how we can use data to derive actionable insights around our Learners, Instructors and Institutions for building adaptive and intelligent learning systems. Today, MyLabs and Mastering learning products are delivering personalized and adaptive learning experiences worldwide, and this success forms a powerful foundation for new research and innovation. We are looking for a uniquely talented individual to support this effort in deriving actionable insights.
We are looking for someone who turns data into insight, action and results. This likely goes without saying but you must love data! The Senior Product Manager of Analytics Infrastructure will operate as the Tableau Evangelist & Administrator supporting a number of teams across Pearson who are developing insight products. The individual will also have the opportunity to participate in helping optimize our customer experience by providing actionable insight into our products, content and systems. Strong critical thinking skills, a drive to understand the business, and a strong ability and bias toward *actionable* insights is essential for success in this role. The successful candidate is also expected to elicit and define requirements, partner with business users to think beyond the traditional and manage client expectations about capabilities and timing. The role will involve close interaction with the product mgmt, user design groups, data warehouse developers and software development teams. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are critical.
High Level Responsibilities:
• Be a central administrator and advocate for Tableau Server across Pearson.
• Responsible for ongoing communications, training of users and evangelism of the platform.
• Maintain responsibility for the installation, configuration and administration of the Tableau server.
• Maintain responsibility for server upgrades, backups, patching, performance tuning, and security and administration of the applications while following SOPs, checklists, and administration guides.
• Maintain responsibility for creating or managing groups, adding or editing sites and corresponding administration rights, including system versus content, creating, modifying, or managing server task schedules, monitoring server activity or usage statistics to identify possible performance issues or enhancements, analyzing documentation for policies, procedures, and best practices, and providing users with Tableau support.
KPI’s:
• Product effectiveness, product improvements, financial goals, partner feedback, insights of a material nature
Expected Results:
• Continuous support of Tableau Server responsibilities outlined above
• 24-48 hr response time
• Analyzing & discovering insights across environment.
• Building smart, intuitive data and insight tools helping drive adoption of data informed decision making.
Qualifications
• 4-5+ years of experience with Tableau as an administrator, including providing installation, administration, configuration, maintenance, performance monitoring, and tuning support.
• Experience with tabcmd and tabadmin.
• Installation and configuration of Tableau server in cluster environment.
• Upgrading (major and minor) versions of Tableau tool across all the environments, Migration and scheduling the extracts.
• Strong SQL development skills- writing complex queries and stored procedures.
• Experience with AWS, Microsoft, Linux/Unix environments.
• The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker, is analytical, detail and results oriented with excellent problem-solving skills and a strong work ethic. He/she is a highly motivated self-starter. This individual is an evangelist for his/her product and has a deep understanding of his/her customers’ needs.
• Strong understanding of effective report/dashboard design and standards. A passionate practitioner of effective data visualization. Familiarity with Edward Tufte or Stephen Few visualization practices and the Tableau visualization tool.
• Strong familiarity with data preparation, processing, classification, and forecasting. Ability to handle ad-hoc analytics requests from raw data through presentation quickly, efficiently and accurately.
• Proficient in data mining and statistical analysis models, structures, theories, principles and produce powerful visuals that present information in a meaningful and insightful way.
• Fluency with structured and unstructured data expressed through the ability to extract that data through SQL, HIVE/Hbase, Spark SQL, etc.
• The ideal candidate for this role will have a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or experience equivalent. A Master’s degree or higher would be an asset but is not required.
• Experience interacting with individuals at all levels, strong time management and communication skills a must.
• Proven leadership ability to influence and inspire people indirectly, lead by example, engage and effectively build multidisciplinary teams and alliances, and facilitate positive change in a large organization.
• This position requires some travel to conferences and team meetings (20%) and will require frequent use of web-based remote video and project collaboration tools.
