Spectrum News NY1 is available on channels 1 and 200 for Spectrum customers throughout New York City’s five boroughs. Spectrum News NY1 serves Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island and provides 24-hour local news, politics, features and weather seven days a week. The network is also available on Cablevision systems in Brooklyn and the Bronx on channel 8, on Bright House systems in Central Florida on channel 1210, in Hudson Valley (New York) on channel 1, and in North Carolina on channel 215.
The 24-hour news channel shares content with its sister channels in the Spectrum News Networks family: Spectrum News channels in Albany, Hudson Valley, Syracuse, Binghamton and Buffalo, New York; in Austin and San Antonio, Texas; and in Tampa and Orlando, Florida.
SUMMARY
Assists Executive Producer in performance of their duties. Provides quality comprehensive news and feature stories to our viewers. Assists in overseeing all aspects of news gathering and production of stories. Interacts with writers, reporters, technical staff and all other production staff who are directly responsible for taking each story from its concept to the air. Assists in providing a balanced, accurate, objective picture of all daily news.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
• Develops ideas for news stories.
• Writes stories for AIR.
• Works with producers to decide what stories to cover and how to present them.
• Presents organized understandable, topical and attention-grabbing newscasts and stories.
• Insures that all necessary elements in packages are delivered in a timely fashion.
• Evaluates resources needed for adequate coverage.
• Conceives stories to add to our programming.
• Writes and edits stories, teases, scripts, etc. for shows.
• Keeps informed on current issues by reading newspapers, wires, today’s queue, monitoring wheel and reviewing packages.
• Edits VOS, SOT, FOS, HITS and packages.
• Writes up daily notes on problems and what could have been done differently.
• Reviews content of stories and check for errors of fact, technical errors, creative content, miscues, editorial mistakes and all elements needed to deliver quality programming.
• Sets quality standards.
• Insures that quality work is produced.
• Gives feedback and assistance to staff for improvement.
• Other duites as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Bachelors degree, preferably in Communications/Journalism.
• Two year experience working in a newsroom with editorial responsibilities.
