Job Description – Product Marketing Specialist, Construction
Role/Purpose
The Product Marketing Specialist, Construction will play a critical role in defining and supporting the business strategy for the construction segment of the AEC industry. The candidate will be regarded as an evangelist for the construction industry both at and around the construction site as well as internally within the Autodesk organization.
He/she will be directly responsible for articulating and executing on the industry strategy and for gathering industry and customer requirements necessary to support reaching and serving the needs of key personas in support of achieving the businesses vision.
This individual will direct, develop and manage go to market plans to support the defined business goals for the industry. They will be responsible for the development and articulation of the annual plan that supports the strategic vision and intent of the business unit. The candidate will spend time with customers validating and gaining insight to further inform strategy and product direction. They will be responsible for gathering, documenting and distributing requirements to the necessary internal stakeholders. This individual will be the primary communicator to internal and external audiences on what is needed short term to drive the defined go to market plans.
In this role, communicating externally to customers will be a pivotal component where developing and communicating our business and technology direction and what it means to the construction site will be a required deliverable. Mentoring and educating internal teams on the construction industry and what the key target personas face in terms of business challenges will be an essential component of the role. Documenting the target personas and their needs along with how our portfolio addresses their challenges is a critical component as well as producing customer facing content that represents our vision, strategy and ability to meet customer’s evolving needs.
The candidate needs to be an effective communicator who thinks strategically, writes concisely, speaks easily to large and small groups and is a coalition builder. He/she must have the appropriate diplomatic skills to work across a matrixed-organization and who can easily defend positions from a data perspective and mediate opposing views while working collaboratively with cross functional teams across Autodesk.
Autodesk is in a period of rapid change as we continue to transform our business models and focus on term and cloud-based offerings to existing customers and new prospects. The successful candidate will have significant input into the shape, direction and growth of the organization as we transition through this change.
Responsibilities
Strategy and Business Development
• Identifies technology opportunities, dependencies, gaps and risks
• Supports the developmemt of the one to three year strategy and realization plans for the construction segment
• Works with product teams to clearly communicate key solution workflows and product enhancements
• Gathers industry and customer requirements to influence technology direction
• Represents Autodesk within industry organizations and at industry events, including customer and executive councils
• Conducts internal and external research on the market, competitors and customer personas.
• Provides positioning for all markets, buyers, and target personas.
• Identifies and drives partnerships and potential acquisitions to support the strategic plan.
Build Collaborative Relationships Internally
• Maintains close customer relationships to effectively represent the voice of the customer with respect to offer price, package, position and business models.
• Serves as main internal point of contact for and builds strong internal partnerships with Product Management/Product Line Group Leaders and Sales/Channel teams.
• Works with PR and acts as critical point of contact for portfolio in the industry, including industry specialists, research analysts, key editors in the press, and other third parties in conjunction with Product Management.
Be the voice of Autodesk Externally on the Construction site
• Provide Industry knowledge and insight, develop and evangelize the construction story and value proposition
• Engage customers and the industry as a whole through engagements such as customer councils, executive briefings, industry events, media support
• Develop relationships with third party vendors and forge strategic alliances
• Work with sales in partnering with key customers to drive successful use of the portfolio and achieve success with early adopter customers, and strategic and reference accounts.
Job Specifications
• 3-5 years experience in the construction industry. MBA may be an advantage but is not mandatory.
• Excellent written & verbal communication skills and proven ability to communicate complex technical concepts to a non technical audience.
• Passion for technology and knowledge of software, IT and technology trends.
• Demonstrate effective communication skills and strong executive presentation skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills required in order to build strong relationships, particularly with sales, field and product organizations and partners, and an ability to be highly successful in a matrix management organization.
