Job Description:
The Planning Directors are the day-to-day practitioners, and keepers of our strategic philosophy. As strategic leaders, they must be the valued partners of both account and creative leadership, and be the highly visible face of strategy on a client’s business. A Planning Director is expected to be an inspirational thinker, a deft collaborator, and a positive leader.
As the Planning Director on 2 to 4 pieces of business, they must be able to handle multiple work streams at a time while inspiring and codifying the big idea for each client.
They are responsible for:
• Directing the strategic leadership of their clients
• Delivering a consistently high quality of the work and ideas
• The successful application of the strategic philosophy and tools
• The management, direction, and application of disciplines on a work stream
• The management, development, and morale of their direct and indirect reports
Qualifications
Successful Planning Directors will have:
• BA or equivalent
• 10+ years of experience overall with the majority being in advertising
• The presence to capture and hold a room
• Excellent management skills
• The interpersonal skills to selflessly inspire and elevate the work of those around them, and to work with different disciplines, resources, and personalities seamlessly
• The capacity to be involved, and to be a hands-on leader on more than one business
• The ability to know a great idea when they see it, and to know when and how to make it better
• A clear understanding of the “what”, “when”, “why”, and “how” of the other strategic disciplines, and the drive and the developing skills to orchestrate their application correctly for the good of the idea
• A clear comfort level with using data as a tool for creative inspiration
• Curious, active and brilliant thinking
• Strong communication and storytelling skills
• Natural leadership with clients and internal teams
• The ability to deftly tap into and apply the context of the world we live in
• The experience in and/or the command of ALL the ways brands connect with people in today’s world – traditional, digital, event, etc.
• A respectful but provocative attitude, always questioning and pushing thinking, but knows when to land the plane
• The ability to marry the dark arts of planning with the hard facts and the data that underpin marketing today, and the comfort with and ability to use “data”.
