Associate or Senior Editor, Nature Reviews Physics
Nature Research is a flagship portfolio of journals, products and services including Nature and the Nature-branded journals, dedicated to serving the scientific community.
Job title: Associate/or Senior Editor
Department: Nature Reviews Physics
Reporting to: Chief Editor
Location: London
Springer Nature is pleased to announce the launch of Nature Reviews Physics in January 2019, the latest addition to the renowned Nature Reviews series. Following in the successful footsteps of Nature Physics, we fully expect Nature Reviews Physics to attain similar status within the physics community. The journal will publish Reviews, Comments and other review-type content, as well as Research Highlights, within all areas of physics.
As part of this exciting new publishing venture, we are now recruiting two Associate/Senior Editors for Nature Reviews Physics. These are demanding and intellectually stimulating roles that call for a keen interest in the practice and communication of physics. The successful candidates will, therefore, be dynamic, motivated and outgoing, and must possess excellent interpersonal skills. The successful candidates will commission articles, edit manuscripts, organise peer review, write for the journal, and develop the journal’s website. This is a fantastic opportunity to be involved in the launch of a new journal.
Main duties of role:
commissioning, editing, writing, organising peer-review, travel.
The successful candidates must be prepared to travel — attending international conferences and visiting laboratories.
The ideal candidate will have a PhD in physics and ideally relevant postdoctoral research experience. We would welcome applications from outstanding candidates in any area of physics with an excellent knowledge of the wider physics community, but are particularly interested in candidates with a background in condensed matter/soft matter/computational physics. Previous editorial experience would be an advantage, but is not essential.
The position will be based in the London office of Springer Nature, and the terms and conditions are competitive, reflecting the importance and responsibilities of the role. All applicants must be able to demonstrate the right to live and work in the UK to be considered for the vacancy.
Applicants should send:
a CV; suggestions for three key papers from the recent literature that would make good Research Highlights; five ideas of review topics plus potential appropriate authors and brief rationale for the choice; and a cover letter explaining their interest in the post and their salary expectations.
Closing date: 1st October 2017
