Job Title
Associate Art Director
Responsible for the visual planning and layout design of editorial features, photography, illustration style, production, and covers for newsstand titles in the SIM Home Design group to the highest standards of service. Manage assigned staff and their titles as assigned by the Design Director, including leading the visual aesthetic and design direction set by the design director for those titles. This position also assists with administrative duties for related home design issues as needed and directed by the Design Director.
Essential Job Functions
50% - Design and coordinate all visual elements, including photography, for assigned SIM products. Work with the editorial departments in developing visual concepts and story ideas for assigned publications.
25% - Manage staff and titles to execute the Design Director and Creative Director’s vision. Ensure all titles maintain quality and consistent design.
15% - Monitor issue workflow procedures including tracking documents, design budgets, and freelance invoices. Assist the Design Director in day-to-day supervision of assigned titles.
10% - Design and produce effective newsstand covers. Follow required steps for scheduled meetings and necessary routing procedures.
Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements| All must be met to be considered.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Art or related field, or equivalent training and/or experience.
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years experience as a senior designer in publishing or advertising.
Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Design 6+ issues as assigned by Design Director
• Manage, coordinate and organize photo shoots for assigned titles including selecting photographers
• Work closely with editors in writing photo orders
• Create innovative typographic solutions for assigned titles
• Manage another design and provide design leadership in assisting them with their titles
• Able to problem solve effectively
• Able to multi-task and adhere to deadlines
• Strong organizational and verbal communication skills
