We publish the world’s most influential journals and our global IT function drives the innovative digital services we offer our customers.
You may think of publishing as somewhat traditional. At Springer Nature we have ambitious plans and our IT group is what will drive our ambitions. We need talented people in every discipline, from Business Analysts and UX Designers to Software Developers and Platform Engineers to name just a few.
What’s it actually like to work with us?
The two sides of your job: between daily thrills and a healthy work-life balance
You’ll contribute to challenging but successful projects, while keeping the needs and interests of the user at the heart of your considerations. And nevertheless, at the end of the day you’ll be home in time for dinner!
We build our software incrementally, iteratively, and continuously, so you’ll be able to see new work go live to over four million visitors around the globe every week. Our flavour of agile has been heavily influenced by XP and Kanban, and if something isn’t working, we change it.
Our work delivers value to both the business and our customers, our teams are cross-discipline: business analysts and the user experience team work with stakeholders to coordinate research and understand requirements, whilst our frontend developers and software engineers pair with quality analysts to develop the most robust solutions, and our platform engineers work across the organisation to ensure our infrastructure never lets us down.
We generally follow a mix of agile and lean practices with an overall philosophy towards continuous delivery. We’ll rely on each and everyone´s expertise to adapt and improve these processes to serve the team, project and company as best fits their current contexts.
What you will be doing:
• Iteratively design elegant interfaces across multiple platforms and devices.
• Sketch and visualise in order to communicate your ideas, the quicker the better.
• Help conduct and interpret usability studies.
• Lead participatory design sessions and coach non-designers to think creatively.
• Engage in critiquing graphic design, front-end principles, and content strategy.
• Design considering the implications of internationalisation.
• Offer ux guidance across the team, the department, and the organisation.
• Develop strong working relationships with product management, the technical team, and stakeholders.
• Comfortably communicate and justify your ideas, but are open to change when faced with new considerations.
Your Profile:
• Advocate empathy for real users and evidence-driven, iterative design.
• Are tirelessly enthusiastic and love championing user experience within an agile product development team.
• Understand the practical application of user-centred design and how to build engaging experiences.
• Are detail-orientated, highly organised, self-sufficient, and delivery focused.
• Are friendly and adaptable, an excellent communicator, and believe in working transparently.
• Are confident and knowledgeable about interaction design, information architecture and analysis of user requirements.
