Job Description
WLKY has an opening for a highly motivated and creative News Editor to work in a very competitive news market. This person will edit weekend evening newscasts and work 3 days during the week. Our ideal candidate has an excellent eye for visual compelling storytelling and is passionate about combining great pictures and sound with compelling writing.
Job Responsibilities:
• Edit stories, videos, and newscasts on tight deadlines. Must be able to handle multiple editing assignments under strict deadlines.
• Nonlinear editing (using Adobe Premiere) of newscast elements including PKGs, VOs, VOSOTs, opens, teases and pre-production material.
• Edit raw video to predetermined lengths to tell compelling, understandable and accurate visual stories, following the instructions of producers, writers, reporters, supervisors, etc.
• Exercise excellent professional judgment based on current broadcast industry video and audio quality and editing standards.
• Follow station policies regarding journalistic standards of good taste, quality and appropriateness, and alert managers when questions arise regarding any of these concerns.
• Coordinate editing information with writer, reporter, producer and/or supervisors.
• Locate, and file archival video.
• Record video and audio feeds from sources including microwave, satellite, fiber, phone, and other web-based/internet feeds.
• Make dubs and prepare video for use in-house, in the field and for other related news department purposes.
• Upload video to FTP sites
• May be assigned other duties.
Required Skills
• Ability to edit on non-linear equipment.
• Proficiency editing with Adobe Premiere.
• Able to work in a fast paced, detail-oriented environment with calm, skilled execution.
• Possess a valid drivers’ license and good driving record.
Education:
• Bachelor's degree or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Experience
• News editing experience required.
• Professional experience with nonlinear editing software (Adobe Premiere) required.
• Military experience will be considered.
• Experience with video photography a plus
