The career you want.
The Specialist, Merchandise Financial Planning supports the development, execution and communication of Merchandise Financial plans. The Specialist, Merchandise Financial Planning is the primary liaison to Group Manager Merchandise and Buyer team and ensures that the planning process is executed consistently and in accordance with the company’s goals and objectives. Member of a team of Planners and partners with Merchandising, Finance, Marketing and Inventory Management to develop plans that drive and maximize sales, margin and inventory productivity.
1. Develop Top Down Financial Plans for Sales, Inventory and GM that incorporates the Finance Targets and merchandising vision and provides direction for the Bottom Up process
2. Guides GMM and Buyers through the seasonal buy process and development of the Bottom Up financial plans. Review and challenge Bottom Up plans to ensuring they supports the merchant vision/strategic plans and answer “What should we buy / how much / when?”
3. Challenge Finance targets; develop additional supporting documents
4. Review Bottom Up Forecasts for Sales, Receipts, Inventory and Gross Margin at Category level against Original or Revised Plan and recommend adjustments to maximize opportunities and minimize liabilities
5. Attend monthly Open to Buy meetings and partner with Merchandising team to recommend actions that will drive sales and maximize Gross Margin by ensuring the best receipt flow
6. Monitor performance against plan; identify projected deviations from plan and make recommendation
7. Provide “what if” analysis to guide buying and product assortment decisions.
8. Lead plan proposal and approval meetings
9. Assist in Key Item, Promotions and Assortment Planning. Evaluate recommended receipt quantities to maximize opportunities and minimize risks
10. Participate in the development of Category Strategies and line review with merchants and inventory management to ensure appropriate breadth and depth and execution of strategies. Collaborate with lead merchants to ensure that plans support product goals
11. Support Finance in preseason budgeting process for parent company
12. Follow published policies related to health and safety rules specific to the workplace as provided by senior management. Promote health and safety within the workplace. Report any potential problems or unsafe situations to supervisors and/or senior management.
13. Perform all other duties as assigned.
Skills we’re looking for.
1. 2 or 3 years of college/university degree or equivalent. Degree in Merchandising, Finance, Accounting, or related field preferred
2. 3 to 5 years of experience are required in the same or related type of job.
3. Strong analytical skills and the ability to make sound recommendations. Accuracy and strong attention to detail.
4. Must possess efficient time management skills and be able to manage multiple priorities
5. Must be able to work with minimal supervision and thrive in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
6. Demonstrated experience in retail buying/merchandising.
7. Effective oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
8. Expert in Excel. PowerPoint: Board presentations and business reviews for senior teams.
9. Oracle Retail/Infovisionix - data queries and reporting with ability to export into excel or other Microsoft applications.
