The User Experience (UX) Manager is responsible for overseeing a team of designers who are focused on a set of UX capabilities across numerous products. Working with software development teams dispersed across the country, the Manager oversees the team that produces the design of user interfaces for a wide range of Pearson's websites and eLearning web applications, both new and existing, as well as defining design standards and interaction models that will be used throughout the company.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Ensure approved projects and products remain within approved budgets for usability design, through proper allocation your staff and use of contract help when required. Be able to “adjust on the fly” as needed.
• Collaborate with team on process improvements and tool implementation to support those processes. Make sure that the process for UI testing and design is accommodated appropriately in the product development process.
• Represent department’s work to similar groups in other operating companies, seeking out areas to collaborate and share best practices in striving to support the Pearson brand worldwide, and define a “Pearson Experience.”
• Work with Product and Platform management teams to understand customer needs and the strategic goals of Pearson’s learning applications.
• Keep well in touch with all areas of product management, so as to ensure that your team is on schedule and succeeding from a design standpoint. Assist product and project management in estimating and planning required usability resources and plan.
• Facilitate success of direct reports in meeting their (and their team's) goals by supporting them in turning their strengths into higher performance, and by helping them improve on their weaknesses.
• Reach out to internal business units to establish some best practices for UI design work, and generally raise the level of awareness and understanding of the value of usability research and design practices.
• Define customer-centric UI/UX measurement criteria and test to ensure the User Experience delivers positive results
• Drive knowledge management to ensure open & clear lines of communication of design process and ideas.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES
Has overall control of planning, staffing, budgeting, managing expense priorities, and recommending and implementing changes to methods. Directs the activities of a broad functional area across products.
Qualifications
Requirements
• Education typically acquired via Bachelor’s degree or appropriate combination of education and significant experience.
• Requires 6+ years of relevant experience and/or 4+ years of management and area-specific experience in addition to post-secondary coursework.
• A solid understanding of educational technologies and market needs.
• Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of multiple user research methodologies, such as lab studies, field research, iterative prototype testing, and surveys/questionnaires.
• Ability to effectively work with remote stakeholders via clear, concise communication; must be able to construct and communicate effective arguments for methods and results, and stimulating insights that will benefit users and the business.
