The Publishing Implementation Manager (PIM) is assigned to select programs. The primary role of the PIM is to oversee the onboarding of a new program, migration of an existing program onto a new publishing technology platform, or to support programs with evolving publishing technology needs. The PIM is engaged in project planning, requirements capture, costing/forecasting, and solutions design. They oversee risk mitigation planning for Publishing Services related risks, and engage in issues resolution for complex technology related issues within publishing systems and tools. The PIM is a customer facing point of contact to address publishing needs.
• Primary responsibility is to work with Assessment Development Services, Assessment Technology Engineering and Program Management teams to support the successful implementation of Pearson technology solutions for Publishing Services from onboarding through deployment.
• Assist internal team members and clients with understanding the requirements associated with implementation of and features available within identified publishing solutions.
• Identify tasks associated with on-boarding new or existing programs to the defined publishing technology solution.
• Coordinate set-up activities to ensure readiness for production and deployment and support on-boarding or migration activities.
• Consult Assessment Development Services, Assessment Technology Engineering, Program Management teams, and clients as needed to develop plans and schedules for migration of existing projects to new technologies.
• Work with Content Measurement Systems teams and Technical Production Specialists to proactively identify risks associated with technology implementation. Collaborate with teams to develop and execute preventive action plans to mitigate these risks, and communicate detailed progress on these action plans to Publishing Services Leadership.
• Participate in technical problem solving across multiple technologies.
• Respond quickly to production phase issues to minimize impacts to schedules. Coordinate escalation process to resolve complex technical production issues. Effectively communicates scope of issue to impacted teams.
• Use knowledge gained in risk and issues management process to provide recommendations for enhancements to existing digital composition and publishing technology solutions to increase quality and throughput.
• Respond to requests for technical information from internal and external customers, consulting closely with Technical Production Specialists as needed to formulate responses to questions.
• Represent Publishing Services in cross-functional process improvement initiatives.
• Interact with Online Testing Implementation teams, Assessment Technology Engineering Team, and Content Measurement Systems Teams.
• Facilitate knowledge sharing within the team and project for publishing deployment phase technologies, risks, issues, and solutions.
• Update functional area business process and training documents to reflect changes in technology and processes. Ensure information is communicated to impacted team members.
• Translate internal technical documentation to client-facing information and work with Program Teams to inform clients about technology updates or enhancements.
• Consult with Assessment Development Services to develop schedules for production and deployment activities.
• Participate in analysis of resource needs for assigned projects.
• Represent Publishing Services on change control boards for existing publishing related technologies and tools. Gather enhancement requests from Publishing Services team members for assigned technologies and tools. Discuss feasibility of implementation of enhancement requests with a Senior Publishing Implementation Managers.
• Engage with internal/external teams to create Costing for RFPs and to Forecast quarterly/yearly labor hours for Publishing Services
Qualifications
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
• Understanding of industry wide publishing goals, strategies and standards for quality and automation of delivery of assessment content.
• Aptitude to develop sufficient depth and breadth of technical knowledge to facilitate delivery of large volume of deliverables across a number of technologies.
• Ability to understand inter-system dependencies and constraints, and translate that knowledge to effectively identify impacts of system integrations from a production and deployment point of view.
• Ability to evaluate complex problems and provide recommendations to achieve digital publishing solutions.
• Ability to translate technical information into layperson’s terms and to articulate requirements and enhancements requests to technical teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
• Willingness to develop and provide subject area specific training in an informal or formal setting.
• Ability to manage several complex projects in parallel and to adapt to rapidly changing and competing priorities.
• Ability to prioritize and organize numerous program/project tasks on aggressive schedules.
• Ability to consistently deliver high-quality output.
• Ability to support collection of and analysis of relevant business metrics.
• Comfort working in both Macintosh and Windows environments.
• Strong skills in Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel.
• Ability to interpret project specific documentation in XML format and to work within an xml editor.
• Ability to independently learn how to work with new and emerging digital publishing technology solutions.
• Desire to collaborate with cross-functional teams and proactively share information in a timely manner.
• Knowledge of project management fundamentals; able to use project management tools and participate effectively in a structured project management environment.
Education and Experience:
• Bachelor degree, preferably in business, communications, or technical field.
• Minimum of 3 years experience in project management or business analysis role supporting projects with a moderate to high level of technical complexity.
• Experience working with in a digital publishing environment is desirable.
• Basic finance knowledge preferred.
