And we have over 100 million unique visitors a month, which is more than Buzzfeed, Yahoo News, and Huffington Post. Because our team consists of over 110 local properties with USA TODAY at the helm, you’ll have the luxury of living in a community you love while making a national impact.
The Fort Collins Coloradoan, part of the USA TODAY NETWORK, is seeking a digital- and social-savvy journalist to join its award-winning team as a full-time engagement editor. The engagement editor will plan and execute engagement opportunities to build community and make sure stories resonate with readers in social media, distributed platform and IRL settings.
The perfect candidate must have a passion for connecting local journalism with the community, and be ready to strategize around the following: How do we tell a story on Facebook versus Instagram Story? How do we listen to our audience and act on their feedback? How do we cultivate a community of influencers in Northern Colorado? And how do we tell the community our story as The Coloradoan?
The candidate must love social media and maintain an active presence on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Reddit and Snapchat. They must be willing to experiment with engagement tactics, such as Facebook groups, events, podcasts and more.
What to expect at The Coloradoan? A newsroom that regularly challenges the status quo – from its early adoption of events as an engagement tactic to its law-changing investigative reports. A supportive, fun-loving team able to provide their community with a wide-range of content on many platforms.
Your role:
• Work with reporters to develop unique storytelling on social media and distributed platforms
• Develop and execute on content marketing plans for stories and projects
• Coach fellow journalists on ways to effectively market themselves and their work
• Interact with readers through various social media outlets
• Use metrics programs to make content decisions
• Experiment with new tools and engagement techniques
The hourly position may include night, weekend and holiday hours. Qualified candidates should have a degree in journalism or similar field.
