Editorial Assistant, Alfred A. Knopf
Summary
Penguin Random House has a wonderful opportunity for an Editorial Assistant to join Alfred A. Knopf, an imprint of Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group. Alfred A. Knopf has long been known as a publisher of distinguished hardcover fiction and non-fiction. The broad range of genres published by the imprint include: fiction, literary fiction, short stories, biography, cultural history, history, science, medical history, theater, film, art, photography and classicism, etc.
As an Editorial Assistant, you will provide general administrative and editorial support to the VP of the imprint, while learning about the overall editorial process and the inner workings of a publishing office.
Responsibilities
• Provides general administrative and scheduling support to supervisor.
• Tracks project due dates, fields questions from authors and agents, keeps online records and data feeds up to date, tracks advance payments and contracts.
• Works with authors, publishers, agents, and the managing editorial department to coordinate and keep track of production process from finished manuscript to bound book.
• Evaluates manuscripts in whole or in part as dictated by supervisor, writes reader’s reports, and drafts rejection letters.
• Provides needed content and assistance to marketing, publicity, rights, and sales departments especially in drafting catalog and flap copy, tip sheets, reader’s guides, and other material for in- and out-of-house promotional use.
• Writes copy as required.
Requirements
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize in a high volume environment.
• Meticulous attention to detail.
• Ability to work effectively with a broad range of people, in-house and out of house; throughout the publishing community.
• Some prior knowledge of the publishing process/office experience is strongly preferred.
• Ability to multi-task and manage competing deadlines.
• Strong and efficient communication skills, both verbal & written.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
• Proficient using Microsoft Office tools (Outlook/Word/Excel) and other company used applications.
• This role would suit someone who’s interested in Managing Editorial, Production, and has a passion for administrative duties.
Salary for this position is $38,000. Full-time employees are eligible for our comprehensive benefits program.
