Blizzard Entertainment is looking for an experienced editor who is passionate about communication trends and gaming communities as well as developing brand voice and helping us shape our messaging around Overwatch publishing initiatives.
The ideal candidate for this position will be a skilled business and brand communicator—someone who is articulate, well-versed in the rules of grammar, and experienced in developing their own written work and the work of others. Familiarity with a wide range of communications vehicles—blog posts, FAQs, reactive messaging and crisis statements, video scripts and descriptions, PowerPoint, and more—is essential, as is experience creating and enlivening copy for a range of channels and audiences, including websites, social media, video, the press, and the public.
As an editor on the global publishing team for Overwatch, you will be working with a diverse group of collaborators and stakeholders from various departments—agencies, customer service and consumer product teams, game developers, and—both locally and internationally. A strong sense of organization, professionalism, self-motivation, attention to detail, and time management is critical, but the ideal candidate will also be a good listener. We are looking for someone who can quickly understand our communication goals, create engaging content in support of them, and manage the publishing process at a global level. As our editor, you’ll be most effective when you’re familiar not only with our games, but also our fans.
Responsibilities
• Write compelling copy for the website, blog posts, forum posts, social posts, and videos for use throughout various owned and earned channels
• Review and edit written copy from internal and external parties
• Interview subject matter experts to gather data for written assignments
• Manage content-approval process
• Partner with the global content strategy manager and graphic designers to create engaging, cohesive initiatives that support global brand milestones
• Upload, publish, and curate content on our internal company CMS and external channels
• Coordinate public-communication efforts with domestic and international teams
• Act as liaison for internal projects to ensure a strong community and brand focus
• Work with other teams to bring joint initiatives to the community
• Able to write in many different tones and styles
• Contribute to and follow tone of voice and style guides
• Request, contribute to, and analyze data regarding content performance
Requirements
• Familiarity with Overwatch and our community
• Strong knowledge of English grammar and usage, and solid proofreading skills
• Strong business and brand writing skills
• Experience using style and grammar references, including Chicago Manual of Style
• Thorough understanding of current social media channels, content types and trends
• Ability to work quickly, under deadline pressures, at a high-quality level
• Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with external parties and internal stakeholders
• Willing to work outside of work hours (covering live events, urgent communication, etc.)
• Strong organizational and time-management skills
• Motivated self-starter who can plan, organize, and establish priorities to manage multiple projects
• Proficiency with MS Office, particularly PowerPoint and Word
• Ability to focus and multitask in a fast-paced environment and with minimal supervision
• Ability to exercise good independent judgment and discretion
• Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills
• Available for occasional travel
Pluses
• Experience interacting with or managing gaming communities in a non-user role
• Proficient in HTML and CSS
• Fluency in a second language
• Experience working with international offices
• Blogging or strategy guide writing experience
About you
• 5+ years’ editorial, PR, journalism, or marketing communications experience
• A. in English or journalism, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Passionate about writing and gaming
• Confident critiquing others’ work and taking criticism from others
• Creative writer with a feel for what makes a good story
