WSJ.com Product Director
Job Description:
• Define the WSJ.COM product starting with a deep analysis of the current product offering, both from a content and UX standpoint
• Be a senior level cultural change agent in the newsroom, encouraging all of us to adopt a product mindset in everything that we do in the name of the reader
• Own the short- and long-term roadmaps for WSJ.COM, and work with apps, revenue and internal product leads in defining and executing on larger product initiatives across platforms and devices
• Manage a team that includes two product managers and a project manager.
• Partner with the the product teams, news desks and Visuals teams to evaluate new product needs and opportunities
• Work with newsroom and commercial stakeholders to develop new storytelling formats and reader experiences focused on mobile first and foremost.
• Align work with directives that emerge from 2020, and shape them where and when appropriate.
• Incorporate advertising and net growth roadmaps into the core web one, and work with those teams to flesh out their requirements and define user experience
• Communicate with stakeholders to keep all teams informed on product releases, performance metrics, future rollouts and activity with WSJ.COM. Present to the ELT quarterly on the state of video and audio both inside and outside the company.
• Be the point of contact to initiate new products and projects with regard to WSJ.COM
• Be a voice for the user as we look to improve the WSJ.COM experience by spearheading user testing initiatives and frequent touch points with Customer Service
• Work closely with the audience development team, identify opportunities to introduce WSJ.COM to new audiences and on new platforms
• Perform vendor analysis and recommend integrations where it makes sense
• Author requirements and gather user feedback. Write user stories and product requirements documents
• Build a strong relationship between audience and news teams to drive WSJ.COM strategy forward
• Work with key stakeholders, define, analyze and report on product KPIs
• Work in an agile fashion, including sprints, sprint reviews, sprint planning, retrospectives and grooming sessions. Architect the process that works for the team, and make sure it is adhered to religiously.
• Be the primary resource for best practices, industry trends and competitive landscape
• Use A/B testing tools to optimize performance and revenue opportunities
• Be fearless in launching, experimenting, and shuttering products when it is time
• Shepherd WSJ.COM projects and be the accountable person from Discovery all the way through Launch and Go to Market. Ensure successful launch of all WSJ.COM projects
• Be relentless in helping shift the mindset in the newsroom to thinking about mobile before anything else
