Description
Pearson Institute of Higher Education is currently seeking an IS Programming lecturer at the Port Elizabeth Campus who will mentor and assist assigned students with the progression of their course. The incumbent will be responsible for facilitating one on one sessions or group workshops with students to assist them in the progression of their course where applicable.
Key Responsibilities
• Assisting students with their coursework:
• Answering course content related questions in a one-on-one fashion.
• Marking exercises and providing feedback to the student in a one-on-one fashion.
• Setting up theoretical and practical exercises and pre-tests.
• Mentoring assigned students:
• Goal setting and progress management.
• One-on-one meetings to address problem areas pertaining to their work ethic.
• Update and/or meet with the student’s parents/sponsor regarding a student’s progress
• Workshops / Lectures / Presentations (periodic group sessions):
• Assisting groups of students with coursework via formal lectures or informal discussions.
• Added value presentations which cover topics outside of the course scope.
• Be part of the training process of sales staff when new courses are released.
• Assessing students:
• Booking, marking, and moderating exams, pretests, and projects.
• Upskilling:
• Complete training and examinations for newly released, or updated, courses.
• Assist with evaluating newly created courseware.
• Attend internal and/or external courses for skills enhancement.
• Other campus related duties on an ad hoc basis
Experience
• Knowledge of C# programming language, and Java will be an advantage
• Relevant lecturing, teaching or tutoring experience
• Experience in a higher education environment advantageous
• Knowledge of higher education practices and processes advantageous

Qualifications
• BSc IT or relevant IS Degree
