The Learning Design Researcher will be a key contributor to the iterative, learner-centered design of Pearson’s next generation of higher education technology products. The Learning Design Researcher will lead formative learner-centered design testing of digital learning products in remote, laboratory, or classroom settings in order to validate and/or iterate on granular design elements within a context of learning experiences, models, and platforms. The Learning Design Researcher will be deeply familiar with the learning sciences, proficient in research methodologies, and expert at managing multiple research and validation initiatives.
Responsibilities
• Facilitate learner-centered design testing at labs, colleges, partner institutions, and via remote testing methodologies to validate and/or iterate product learning design and to preface formal evaluation measures
• Incorporate innovative validation measures and methodologies that draw on user-centered design principles, human factors, and affective and cognitive testing while also providing key indicators of learning
• Extrapolate research results into an actionable recommendations for product learning design
• Utilize agile and innovative testing methodologies to achieve rapid results to support aggressive development timelines
• Contribute to cumulative reporting on trends and retrospectives of value to the product learning design team
The Learning Design Researcher must be an independent and technically-adept problem-solver, who can balance multiple high-volume responsibilities with great autonomy and initiative in a remote environment, while always demonstrating exceptional communication and collaboration skills and a solution-oriented attitude amidst a dynamic climate of rapid change. This position requires strong project management expertise, exceptional virtual office skills, and outstanding interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
Pearson Learning & Experience Design utilizes a dynamic model of flexible capacity in which this position may be requested to lead or contribute to other development efforts depending upon product release schedules. Thus, preference will be given to candidates with complementary skills in diversified areas related to online learning, visual design, innovation, and assessment.
Qualifications
Formal education or equivalent experience:
• Master’s degree or higher in Learning Science, Cognitive Psychology, Educational Technology, Educational Psychology, Human Factors, Instructional Design, Assessment, Learning Design, or related field required
• Minimum of three years participating in the design of learning technology, software, or learning environments.
• Significant experience gathering and applying peer-reviewed scholarly research and user research
• Previous instructional design and user-centered design testing experience preferred
• Previous experience with qualitative research preferred
Skills/knowledge/abilities:
• Deep and demonstrated knowledge of learning design principles from cognitive psychology and related fields
• Demonstrated experience synthesizing and applying research from the learning sciences to product design in clear, tangible, documented ways
• Demonstrated understanding of various learning tools and their impact on learning
• Demonstrated understanding of evidence-based, learner-centered design processes, techniques, and tools
• Demonstrated experience participating in the design of learner interfaces and learner experiences
• Demonstrated experience establishing and designing for specific learner needs
• Demonstrated experience collaborating effectively in highly matrixed, dispersed, cross-functional teams
• Demonstrated experience contributing to complex technology systems with numerous stakeholders and requirements
• Ability to work remotely
