Reporter - intelligence agencies
USA TODAY is looking for an experienced, energetic and digital-savvy staff writer to cover the intelligence agencies throughout theU.S. government.The qualified candidate, working closely with other Washington bureau reporters, will be responsible for coverage of breaking news as well as providing a steady stream of strong enterprise. Three years of experience covering the intelligence community and a demonstrated record of breaking original stories is a must. The position also requires strong news judgment, clean writing, the ability to work with other reporters from throughout the newsroom; and strong digital skills. Skills such as problem-solving capability, communication and interpersonal relations are especially essential.
In this role, you will:
• Research, write and report on compelling journalism that continuously grows a fan base by informing and engaging readers.
• Provide thoughtful analysis of complex issues. Produce watchdog journalism that leads to change.
• Partners with editors, other reporters and audience analysts to shape storytelling to meet audience needs and interests on every platform.
• Cover national news on intelligence and national security with urgency and accuracy, with the goal of always being first to report important developing news on our digital platforms. This includes compelling features, conversation-leading enterprise and videos.
• Be expected to help with other news coverage when needed, especially breaking news coverage.
Here's what you need:
• Bachelor's degree
• 3+ years working for a well-established news outlet
• Excellent communication and time management skills
• Ability to write accurately and detailed copy in AP style
• Must be able to work well on deadline
