The Digital Designer will play a key role in the design and development of the brand’s website and digital properties. As design lead, she/he is responsible for ensuring high-quality design deliverables that are in line with the digital strategy of the Digital Director and Creative Director while staying true to the brand. This person must work collaboratively across the Editorial, Sales, and Technology teams, reporting to the Editor in Chief.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Oversee brand guidelines and maintain design quality for all initiatives across all digital platforms to ensure holistic messaging
• Help define and maintain user experience requirements for website in close collaboration with Digital Director and Creative Director
• Ideate creative strategies, content, and innovative solutions to meet audience development and revenue goals set by Digital Director and Sales team
• Create and integrate new and impactful designs for mobile and social platforms
• Prepare images for layouts, and liaise with the production team to have all images adapted for digital use
• Maintain asset libraries and templates, and use them diligently
• Collaborate closely with Experience Design, Product and Engineering teams to define and iterate on core and emerging brand experiences
• Optimize video content budget by working with edit staff to create high quality, engaging material
• Collaborate with the Sales team to strategize and execute revenue opportunities that improve, rather than compete with, the goals of the site
• Manage design project schedules and deliverables
• Thoroughly review and QA the entire digital edition prior to publishing, and be responsible for the quality of the design
• Work on print or web projects as needed
Requirements:
• A portfolio that demonstrates excellence in digital design execution, website design and a holistic brand expression—including but not limited to social, mobile and web application solutions
• Fluency analyzing audience metrics, research surveys, focus group and usability testing
• Digital editorial production, interaction design and visual design experience working on large-scale CMS controlled sites
• Well versed in SEO best practices and social media trends
• Extensive knowledge of Adobe CS software is a must; experience with Adobe DPS a major plus. Provide AfterEffects and design elements to onsite videos. Working knowledge of HTML/CSS and JQuery
• Experience in mobile product development
• 1-3 years demonstrated leadership skills in a team environment
• Strong communication and presentation skills, extreme attention to detail, ability to take constructive criticism and feedback, exceptional organizational skills and willingness to learn new tools as they are developed and help across multiple brand functions
