Job Description Summary

The Video Editor, Education plays a key role in launching National Geographic Society’s educational video effort. The Video Editor’s responsibilities include but are not limited to developing visual concepts and templates for a variety of educational videos, editing visual elements into finished videos, and designing and creating video graphics. The Editor reports to the Supervising Producer.
Responsibilities
• Design: In conjunction with Director, Senior Producer and Producer, develop the visual style for a variety of educational video series. Create graphic templates that can be applied by other editors. (20%)
• Editing: Assemble source media, from a variety of formats, into finished videos. Sources include field video, stock footage, photos, maps, and motion graphics. supervised technical deliverables. Ensures that images used are clear for the use for which they are intended and creates simple graphics. (40%)
• Motion Graphics: Using Adobe Affter Effects, create unique motion graphics for individual videos. Create graphic packages that can be used by other editors. (20%)
• Final Finishing: The Editor will be available for the color correction, online session, and mix, as necessary, and is responsible for submitting the shot sheet and acquiring the music cue sheet from the Composer. (10%)
• Post Production Workflows and Media Management: Conform to the existing media management systems of the organization. Suggest and implement new post-production workflows and media management systems. (10%)
Minimum Education Required
Bachelor’s degree.
Minimum Years and Type of Experience
10+ years experience in editing and motion graphics using Adobe Creative Suite.
Knowledge and Skill Required
Intimate familiarity and ease of working with Adobe Creative Suite, especially Premiere and After Effects. Ability to quickly edit video and build motion graphics. Ability to work well under pressure, and under tight deadlines. Ability to respond to producer and client feedback. Demonstrated video storytelling skills a must. Ability to prioritize workflows. Solid understanding of all broadcast and digital tech systems. Excellent collaboration skills. Understanding of video production workflow. Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Detail-oriented with strong interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work on a small team and also proactively identifying new opportunities.
