Position Summary:
As a full time Assistant Producer based at the Discovery offices in London, you will be delivering Cut-to-Clock edit reversions for our Factual, Lifestyle and Entertainment channels, supporting Producers and Senior Producers in fulfilling the departments content output. Your focus will be on fast turnaround content and you will be suited to develop a firm grip on Ofcom and international broadcasting regulations, viewing and approving content for Transmission.
You will ensure each programme is edited to time and in line with Discovery guidelines and is approved for transmission ahead of deadlines; including placing part breaks, checking for accuracy and factual issues, Ofcom compliance and local cultural sensitivities for markets such as the Middle East, and suitability for language customisation.
With training you will be able to provide clear and accurate edit instructions for internal edit and audio facilities which represent the editorial direction and requirements of the channel and regions you are Reversioning for. Providing ‘cut sheet’ edit instructions for Cut-to-clock Reversioning, as well as directing Editors during attended edit suite sessions when required.
Responsibilities:
Producing Cut-to-clock versions
Supporting SP’s and Managers:
Work as directed on projects or series.
Ensuring all certification and approval documentation is up to the expected standard. Attending edits and giving direction remotely to our international editing teams.
Supporting Producers by:
• Signing off additional versions (Reversionining can create multiple versions of a programme and you will be picking up on content once the first version has been approved by a Producer).
• Attending edits and giving direction remotely to our international editing teams.
• Fact checking programmes
• Time coding scripts
• Research for scripting on key promotable series
• Research for music replacement for versions that have rights restrictions.
• Archive research, working on secondary versions that require images to be removed.
• Music cue sheets ensuring all certification and approval documentation is
• Troubleshoot issues i.e. deliverables
Requirements:
• Must be Russian speaker
• Knowledge of Ofcom regulatory guidelines for television, and the ability to hone compliance expertise for editing with further training in OFCOM compliance.
• Ability to multi-task in a range of fast turnaround projects.
• The ability to take guidance, follow department procedure and the desire to work in a high volumes department, carrying out tasks, certifying and producing edits as effectively as possible.
• Ability to deliver accurate department paperwork required without exception; from programme certifications forms to Music cue sheets.
• Desire and ability to work collaboratively within a team through the Reversioning process, to communicate problems and offer solutions.
• Knowledge of post-production processes and ability to instruct editors on technical and editorial requirements of Reversioning.
• You will show the ability to articulate technical and editorial directives clearly and accurately to both your Senior Producer and the Post production team that you will be working in collaboration with.
• To be able to allocate appropriate amounts of time to versions and prioritise according to department and channel goals, and always deliver to often demanding deadlines.
• Though training, to be able to help spot opportunities and add value in the editorial Reversioning process.
• You should be able to show you have good editorial judgement and the ability to process complex subject matters, and to develop good storytelling and eventually scripting skills.
• Desire to work in Factual and/or Lifestyle programming and develop an understanding of the strategy of discovery regional programming and channels.
• A flexible approach to working patterns and to be able to fulfill Reversioning department requirements outside office hours if necessary.
Desired:
• A second European language from Europe or the CEEEMEA region would be preferable.
• An understanding of some of the cultural sensitivities within the DNI regions, and what may need to be edited for broadcast.
