As part of the Design Operations group at Airbnb (aka Design Ops), Design Program Managers are creative problem solvers and great communicators that understand the needs of a fast paced product design org. The DPgM team’s primary objective is to make the design organization as effective as possible. With a strong appreciation for the practice and process of design, you bring creativity to the operational aspects of a design team and deal with solving the “how”, freeing up your design lead peers to focus on crafting the “what”. You will define how design interacts with cross-functional teams and be an advocate at all times.
We are looking for a talented, driven manager to lead our team of Design Program Managers. The ideal candidate has experience building and leading teams and has a successful track record of running internal programs and shipping large projects in a fast paced consumer facing product org.
As a successful Manager of Design Programs, you will:
• Build and grow the Design Program Manager Team and mentor the professional development of each direct report through personal coaching and performance management.
• Lead a small but mighty team of Team Coordinators who support the entire Design org.
• Give DPgMs the tools, confidence, and motivation to make decisions independently that lead to the recognition of your team and not just yourself
• Initiate cross-functional collaboration with various Airbnb product teams, including Product and Eng.
• Ensure the team fully understands the goals and objectives of Airbnb as a company and how their work fits into 'the bigger picture.'

Responsibilities
• Unify and drive vision for an existing team of DPgMs
• Build and grow a world class team of DPgMs
• Develop success metrics for both the team and the broader Design org
• Elevate the discipline and build cross-functional partnerships
• Establish and flesh out our Operational Design Programs for Learning & Development, Onboarding, Internships, Workshops, Contractor and Budget mgmt among others
• Ensure pertinent information is communicated and understood by stakeholders and leadership
• Provide up-to-date visibility into current projects, resource utilization, team performance and UX health across your teams
• Drive integration of the various disciplines within the design org (research, content strategy, localization, production design)
• Continuously evolve our design process and tools to adapt to changing needs. Including communication structures, project templates and meeting cadences.
• Define and manage how the design team interfaces with other functions such as product management, engineering and marketing.
• Uphold standards and best practices, ensure the design process and tools are applied
• Cultivate, negotiate and manage relationships with external contractors and agencies. Includes contract execution and financial reporting.
• Develop, implement and manage project plans for select high priority projects; create detailed work breakdowns, establish deadlines and communicate key milestones
Requirements
• 10+ years Program Management, Product Management, Project Management or relevant experience in a cross-functional (pm, design & eng) product driven organization or digital agency
• Track record of managing and shipping impactful design initiatives in a large digital product org
• Deep knowledge of and appreciation for the Product Design process
• Proven background in building and growing teams, establishing systems and developing cross-functional relationships
• Demonstrable skills and experience in mediation, negotiation, presentation and conflict resolution
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal with experience interacting with senior leadership
• A high-level of attention to detail with excellent organizational skills
• Competent with JIRA, Asana or equivalent. Must be able to manage a ticket queue
• Passionate and enthusiastic about excellence and attention to detail
• Comfortable with ambiguity in a fluid organization
• A calm, collected demeanor with a smile in the face of adversity
