Email Program Manager
Gannett is seeking an Email Program Manager to manage the ongoing technology and product roadmap of Gannett's email program and platform. Gannett’s email program touches millions of people every day, keeping them informed and engaged through daily newsletters, real-time alerts, retention campaigns and consumer marketing. The Email Program Manager serves as the primary product and platform champion working across Gannett businesses, including USA TODAY and all local properties.
Responsibilities
• Drive the B2C and B2B product development lifecycle in collaboration with product management, development, and architecture teams by gathering and defining overall email product strategy and by working closely with stakeholders and project teams
• Manage feature requirements, collaborating with cross functional teams to connect business goals with the design & development process
• Identify new B2C and B2B email monetization opportunities and work with stakeholders, vendors, and partners to implement enhancements that result in increased revenue
• Act as one of the primary points of contact with the 3rd party email service provider vendors & primary stakeholders. This includes working with business teams to manage forecasts, working with stakeholders to establish ongoing requirements or technology teams in case of break/fix issues
• Coordinates email contact strategies across channels as part of a comprehensive CRM strategy
• Provides reporting requirements and coordinates user requirements for data sharing with the reporting team
• Serve as the primary point of contact, champion and product resource for B2C with partners and all appropriate Gannett businesses, including USA TODAY and local newspapers
• Educate local markets on best practices for successful revenue-generating email delivery and programs
• Optimize the success of Gannett’s email strategy by analyzing customer feedback, web analytics, customer surveys and field suggestions. Own the multivariate and A/B testing process capturing quantitative measurement
• When adding new features, manage feature requirements. Collaborate with product development, connecting business requirements with the design process. Communicate requirements with project management and architecture to make decisions about product tradeoffs to ensure speed to market or other key objectives.
• Manage relationships with vendors, partners or joint ventures related to product improvements. Serve as the key point of contact for discussions with partners about business requirements, priority setting or enhancement requests related to assigned products. And work with internal teams to best integrate newsletters early in all project planning as needed
Ideal Candidate
• 2-4 years digital media product management and/or strategy experience preferably in news, entertainment or local information product categories
• 2-3 years’ experience managing email product strategy with demonstrated expertise in enterprise email platforms, technology, deliverability, re-engagement campaigns, email marketing metrics, and A/B testing
• ExactTarget experience is preferred
• Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, computer science or related field. MBA a plus.
• Experience creating and managing product roadmaps, executing strategic initiatives, and managing cross functional matrixed teams
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment with ambiguity and change
• Understanding of email fundamentals: CAN-SPAM requirements, segmentation, performance metrics, etc.
• Demonstrated ability to manage, monitor, and interact with multiple internal client teams and external vendors
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a team environment
• Exceptional, proactive communication and presentation skills
• Ability to manage forecasts & work collaboratively with business teams
• Working knowledge of common Internet programming languages, such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript preferred
• Proficient in newsletter and ad-mail platforms best practices and processes.
• Experienced managing e-mail lists and actively growing lists for future development.
• Highly conversant in Digital media, such as understanding best practices for websites and content delivery.
• Must be fluent in all standard MS Office applications, such as Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
• Some travel may be required
