DESCRIPTION:
CBS is seeking an entry-level junior engineer to be part of a small operations group, supporting all of CBS Corporation. The ideal candidate will be an agile learner, and possess a strong work ethic with a relevant degree in information security or IT/Computer Science. The junior network security engineer will support the operations of the company’s network security systems, which includes Linux-based systems and commercial security platforms. The individual will also be responsible for assisting with the architecture and implementation of network security solutions, and should be comfortable interfacing with multiple stakeholders on both a business and technical level in order to support the company’s diverse network and system operations. This is an important position that will provide the opportunity to work on security and technology initiatives with a company-wide reach.
Responsibilities:
• Assist in the management of Linux based and Vendor based firewalls and VPN rules using iptables, web and email security appliances, and VPN appliances.
• Maintain security-related scripts.
• Assist in troubleshooting problems for security systems, assist other teams in troubleshooting.
• Stay abreast of current security trends and research and test new security tools.
• Analyze logs to improve system and network performance, isolate and detect failures, and identify malicious activity.
• Implement solutions to optimize operations; rapidly respond to failure or degradation of service, and, service/system instability.
• Assist in maturing network security engineering and maintenance practices.
• Assist in troubleshooting problems for security systems, assist other teams in troubleshooting
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Undergraduate degree in a relative field.
• Linux systems experience.
• Scripting experience (esp. bash and Perl).
• Working knowledge of Windows and Mac systems.
• Possess troubleshooting, problem solving, and verbal/written communication skill.s
• Ability to maintain solid relationships with colleagues and clients.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Experience with network sniffers (tcpdump, wireshark, ngrep) and other security tools (nessus, snort, etc) a plus.
• Working knowledge of the OSI model, dynamic routing protocols (esp. OSPF and BGP), and subnetting, including CIDR notation a plus.
• Experience in commercial security systems, such as Cisco, Palo Alto, Fortinet, and Juniper, F5, Sourcefire, a plus.
