Responsibilities
NBC News is seeking a Booking Researcher to join our News Booking Team. As a Booking Researcher, you will work as part of the NBC News Booking Unit, which is responsible for securing all key interviews and newsmakers across the network. You will be working in a fast-paced, competitive environment to land interviews seen across TODAY, Weekend TODAY, Nightly News, Weekend Nightly News, Meet the Press, Dateline, Specials, as well as digital platforms. You will work closely with executive and senior producers to secure live and tape guests driving the news cycle. Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
Work closely with senior producers to secure live and taped guests driving the current news cycle.
Secure short-term and long-term bookings across the multiple platforms of NBC News. This includes pitching story ideas and working on assigned stories developed by the editorial team.
Use your love of research to search Wikipedia or Google for background information on people in the news.
Work with the production team for all travel logistics for the guests and arrange pre-interviews with segments producers.
Coordinate and provide direction to field bookers, often during breaking news situations.
Compile and send out daily booking notes, confirming secured guests and detailing all booking efforts.
Qualifications/Requirements
:Basic Qualifications:
1+ year(s) of experience working in production or booking at the network or cable news level.
Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, English, Journalism or a related field of study
:Eligibility Requirements:

Must be willing and able to work flexible hours, under tight deadline pressure, including breaking news.
Schedules will vary but must be able to work all shifts, including overnights. Must be able to work additional hours beyond scheduled shift with little or no notice if needed.
Must be willing to travel with little notice, and for extended periods.
Must be willing to work in New York, NY.
Desired Characteristics
Must enjoy channel surfing morning news programs with your coffee/breakfast.
Gets chills from being in a control room or even the “Good Evening” first line on evening news broadcasts.
Likes to power read morning media newsletters like New York Times, Buzzfeed and/or Politico.
Must be ok with rejection, even when you want to crawl under your desk. There’s always another booking to jump on!
Enjoys creating Google/Twitter alerts for topics of interest
Likes to Google search for background information on people you read about on or in the news.
Feels extreme excitement over an exclusive graphic, especially when it is on an interview the team booked
Understands how to work with people in serious, sometimes complicated and stressful situations
Ability to juggle and re-prioritize assignments.
Proven ability to demonstrated that they are a social guru
Knowledge of NBC News Policies and Guidelines and Practices.
