Content Development Specialist: Standards & Training
The Content Development Specialist on the Content Development team is involved in the critical areas of creating digital content development standards, guidance, and the training of internal and external teams in support of digital growth strategy initiatives and key pilots. In this role the Content Development Specialist is accountable for planning, developing, training, and support of digital content, tools, and assessments across a variety of higher education disciplines. The position is one that requires enthusiasm, agility, creativity, precision, diplomacy, and critical thinking skills. This position reports to the Content Development Director and is based out of the Pearson Boston office.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
Digital Content Development: Standards, Best Practices, Training
In collaboration with the Content Development Director, the Content Specialist will be responsible for the following:
• Participate in the creation of standards, best practices, processes and training materials for pilot and program content creation, development, and revision.
• Coordinate training workshops for authors, internal teams, SMEs, third party content providers, development editors, assessment authors, and others to roll out Pearson digital content guidelines.
• Provide ongoing standards and best practices support to authors, internal teams, SMEs, third party content providers, development editors, and Portfolio Managers as needed.
• Participate in title planning and author launch meetings to ensure Pearson standards and guidelines are fully integrated into new digital product development.
• Regularly survey key stakeholders and partners on the effectiveness and usefulness of the guidelines and collaborate with teams to provide timely updates, expanded and personalized examples, and expanded guidance as needed.
• Work collaboratively with the Instructional Design Content Specialist to sync up on communication around digital content standards roll outs, interpretation and application of key principles to ensure a one Pearson approach to digital learning guidance.
• Working with the Director of Content Development, plan, resource, develop, and pilot self-paced and live training courses, and update and maintain the Digital Content Development training site.
Third-Party Relationships
In collaboration with the Content Development Director, the Content Development Specialist will participate in the following:
• Identify new third party partnerships and review existing partnerships to establish standards and guidelines for content deliverables
• Working with Content Development Director and Manager, support meetings with third party content providers and aid in the assessment of expertise, skill sets, ability to handle volume, quality and consistency of deliverables, accuracy achievement, samples, successes in the market, agility in handling content and/or schedule changes, and overall fit with Pearson standards and requirements
• In Working with Content Development Director and Manager, participate in onboarding new third party content providers to project and pilot content standards and providing training as directed.
• Provide outstanding third party content provider support through the hosting of regular Office Hours and one on one sessions to provide training, examples, and support to internal and external content providers. Be responsive and timely in responding to questions, concerns, requests and escalation of problems to the Content Development Director.
General Responsibilities
• Provide information and guidance to cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with changing Pearson, division, and discipline requirements
• Develop a deep understanding of Pearson’s corporate mission, initiatives, and standards and serve as a resource for the higher education team to keep them current on changes in processes, requirements, and standards
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree, advanced education-related coursework preferred
• Minimum of three or more years of higher education digital content development, design, and standards creation experience with proven success required
• Teaching experience preferred
Required Skills:
• Knowledge of higher education, learning principles, and the creation and development of learner-centered content.
• Ability to understand, adapt, initiate, and implement change as required.
• Evidence of strategic and analytical thinking and planning, team leadership, communication, negotiation, problem-solving, good judgment, and the ability to influence others is required.
• Demonstrated success in delivering learning design based content and best practices to learners.
• Ability to work closely with Content Director within a small, collaborative team environment critical.
• Excellent verbal, written, and listening communication skills as well as the ability to communicate difficult/sensitive information effectively.
• Ability to lead and collaborate actively with others on internal and external cross-functional teams and to build consensus and foster collaborative relationships across teams.
• Demonstrate the ability to multi-task, manage multiple projects, prioritize, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent organizational skills is required.
• Exceptionally strong attention to detail is required.
• Ability to adapt to new software products for course and/or learning experience delivery and learning management systems.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Smartsheet, and ideally, basic Web design skills.
