Job Description:
The candidate hired to fill this position will be responsible for the following tasks:
Label Support Functions:
• Track all of the label’s signed joint venture and label deals, anticipate any administrative or operational issues that might arise from these deals once they are given to the Center to be set-up, and coordinate the set-up of these deals by the relevant employees in the Center’s Reporting Department.
◦ This information will be provided initially from Finance with input and details provided from Business Affairs;
• Prepare a quarterly analysis of joint venture agreements, and label deal agreements in order to facilitate the label Finance department’s assessment of its balance sheet risk on previously paid advances and for other strategic purposes;
• Liaise in month end and quarter end closes to assist in the review of the journal entries around the key JV and label deals. Assist Label Finance with review of the relevant balance sheet areas associated with these deals.
• Assist Label Finance and Business Affairs with the review of key monthly, quarterly, semi-annual JV & label deal statements, including the balance sheet reconciliation.
• Assist Label Finance & liaise with WMG Control Champion on SOX requirements, documentation, etc. Act as a local control champion assist to the label.
• Review pending Center matters and relevant performance metrics periodically with key Finance, Business Affairs and A&R admin staff. Ad-hoc research into label’s royalty and participation accounts for selected artists and partners as requested by members of the label’s A&R Administration, Business & Legal Affairs and Finance departments; and
• Perform those other duties and tasks related to the group’s role and responsibilities that may be required by the label’s Chief Financial Officer from time-to-time.
Shared Services Support Functions
• Hold regular meetings with the heads of each of the Center’s departments, to review pending matters related to the label, performance metrics related to the services the Center provides to the label, and such other matters as such department heads may determine from time-to-time;
• Assist employees of the Center in their efforts to secure information from the label that is relevant to the services that the Center’s employees provide to the label, including, without limitation, information regarding third party payees to whom the label has royalty or other payment obligations, and information regarding the appropriate publishing splits for compositions embodied on records and recordings released by label;
• Working with employees of the label’s A&R Administration department, coordinate, facilitate, and support the label’s fulfillment of its obligations under its collective bargaining agreements with the American Federation of Musicians and SAG-AFTRA;
• Perform those other duties and tasks related to the group’s role and responsibilities that may be required by the President and Chief Financial Officer of the Center from time-to-time.
Required Competencies/Skills:
• Candidates for this position must be able to work well independently and as part of a team;
• Candidates must have strong computer skills, including strong data entry skills (with an emphasis on accuracy) and strong proficiency using Microsoft Office’s Excel, Word and PowerPoint applications; familiarity with Microsoft Office’s Access application is preferred, but not required.
• Candidate must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills;
• Candidate must possess excellent analytical, mathematical and organizational skills; and
• Candidate must be able to meet deadlines consistently and effectively while working under pressure; candidate must be able to manage multiple assignments at any given time and prioritize them effectively and appropriately.
Special Requirements/Preferences:
• Candidate should possess a minimum of 7 years’ experience working either in the Finance Department of a major U.S. record label, a financial shared services department that supports a major U.S. record label, or some combination of the two.
• Candidate should be able to work outside of normal business hours from time-to-time, as and when needed. Similarly, candidates should be prepared to schedule vacation days at times that will not conflict with any relevant internal deadlines, so that their absences will not interfere with their ability to meet such deadlines.
Education Required/Preferred:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
