Job Description:
The Wall Street Journal is looking for a reporter to cover the music industry, a beat that focuses heavily on digital disruption and companies’ attempts to grapple with it. The industry has never been a dull place, and the past few years have been especially exciting. This is a beat brimming with news as tech giants create media strategies, traditional media companies struggle to chart a path in a world dominated by Spotify and Pandora, concert promoters try to find a way to survive in the era of StubHub and Coachella, and much more. Celebrities and other outsize personalities also keep things interesting.
The successful candidate should be able to break news and deliver it quickly and cleanly for a digital-first audience, and multimedia skills would be a plus. The position requires frequent collaboration with other reporters. This job is based in Los Angeles, where a lively and collegial bureau hosts around a dozen reporters who cover topics including entertainment, aerospace, religion, immigration and casino companies.
Applications should include a resume, cover letter, and up to five published clips.
