Responsibilities
NBC News Digital is seeking a social-savvy newshound with strong editorial sense who thrives in a fast-paced newsroom to help run our Twitter and Facebook accounts. The social media editor will build upon our ongoing efforts to break news and share stories through social media. The candidate should be a news junkie with a significant knowledge of social media and proven experience using data to help inform and improve storytelling and newsgathering. The social media editor should be able to work under pressure, have a depth of experience with both domestic and foreign news, and excel at discovering new information across social media. The successful candidate will leverage the assets across the brand to create highly sharable content. The social media editor will work as part of the team to develop innovative ways to tell and share stories with text, video, photos, and other multimedia.
Job Duties
Manage and monitor social media platforms for NBC News Digital
Develop and execute social strategy across our social channels
Discover and break news through social media platforms and tools
Oversight of daily posting and engagement across social channels
Create highly sharable multi-media social experiences to grow audience engagement
Contribute creative ideas to special series and verticals
Collaborate with journalist across both digital and broadcast to integrate social and editorial content
Participate in special projects, pitch fresh ideas, and assist senior editors as needed
Review and analyze 3rd party social media daily traffic and growth to contribute to regular reporting and
development of action items on user engagement and community
Qualifications/Requirements
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree
3 years working in social media at either a news operation or agency with a focus on news and storytelling
A deep understanding of social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat
Proven news judgment, high ethical standards and wonderful interpersonal skills
Must be willing and able to work flexible hours depending when demanded by news coverage and other editorial responsibilities
Must be able to work under tight deadline pressure
Ability to travel
