NBCUniversal’s Owned Television station in the New York area, WNJU, is looking for a Meteorologist
Our successful candidate will be a scientist who knows how to use graphics and other resources to present the day's weather story in clear, easy-to-understand language. As a meteorologist you will have a significant presence on the station's online and mobile platforms, posting up-to-the-minute content. You will need to stay current on changing weather technology, and ongoing training to get the most out of our weather system. You will make public appearances on behalf of the station and must be willing to work any and all shifts, including early mornings, evenings and weekends (Saturday and Sunday) regularly.

Responsibilities
Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Investigate atmospheric phenomena and interpret meteorological data, gathered by surface and air stations, satellites, and radar to prepare reports and forecasts for public and other uses
• Prepare weather forecasts based on material assembled from various sources
• Will present weather information(in Spanish) for all platforms in a manner that is clear, engaging, and meaningful to news viewer
• A passion for communicating weather information through graphics, verbally, and in writing is must
• Proficiency in weather analysis and forecasting is expected
• Assist in coordinating weather programming on multiple platforms
• Maintain deep level of familiarity with the state and region
• Respond to breaking weather news as required
• Record and deliver promotional announcements when assigned and makes promotional appearances as required
• Create weather graphics and operates weather equipment
• Produce story packages aside from weather presentation
• Back up to Traffic Anchor.
-Provides timely and useful information to commuters planning their drives to and from work, as well as to those already en route by maintaining contact with external sources of information.
-Announces the latest accidents and traffic hold-ups.
-Reads traffic reports from a variety of in-take sources; canvasses local, state and national traffic news to determine significance and prioritization.
Qualifications/Requirements:
• A minimum of two years’ experience as a TV Meteorologist
• Bachelor's degree in Meteorology or Atmospheric Science or Certification
• A minimum of two years’ experience using and maintaining software from Barons, WSI, Weather Central or equivalent software
• Able to work a Flexible Schedule and Shifts including mornings and weekends
• Must be willing to work at the station in Fort Lee, NJ location
• Must be 18 years or older
• Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States
• Must be covered by Solutions, NBCU’s Alternative Dispute Resolution Program
Desired Characteristics:
• American Meteorological Society (AMS) or National Weather Association (NWA) Certified
• Experience with TV weather graphics/animations WSI system
• Exceptional weather judgment
• Strong story telling skills, both written and oral
• Able to meet tight deadlines
• Exhibit great initiatives, problem solving skills and ability to work under pressure
• News reporting experiences a plus
