Role Summary: This role reports directly to the VP and is critical to the fundamental work of the Studio. The Director Is responsible for ensuring all assessment development work is aligned with product management and strategy. This Director may supervise the work of the test development Leads and Managers, or Research Scientists and Psychometricians, and coordinates staffing of project work across the Studio, as well as represents the Studio in cross-functional teams and initiatives.
Primary Responsibilities:
Supervision:Supervise, mentor, guide, and advise all Studio Leads/Managers/Research Scientists/Psychometricians. Guide development of annual commitments and conduct performance reviews and meetings with staff on a regular basis to ensure appropriate levels of coaching and feedback are provided.
Coordinates:
Work with Studio Leads/Managers/Research Scientists/Psychometricians to coordinate Studio assignments for all programs: e.g. K12, Clinical, Basal, and ISG. Coordinates with the Studio VP and colleagues across PM&S to ensure the PM&S product development plans, goals, and strategies and the work of the Assessment Studio are fully aligned. Leads the Studio in Coordination and awareness of corporate, PDM, and Studio initiative. Ensures the Studio is represented in cross-functional teams and initiatives; for example Math Expressions, Science Dimensions, ISG assessments, and Corporate Adaptivity Initiative. Leads the Studio and works with cross-functional teams to ensure ongoing alignment and compliance with any such initiatives.
Analysis and Content Development:
Lead a team of test development specialsts and/or researchers/psychometrcians by providing analysis, definition, and coordination of assessment features of specific K12, Clinical and other programs.
Consulting:
Provide assessment expertise and best practices as needed for specific program development.
Education and Experience Required:
• Master’s degree or equivalent in Education or relevant discipline
• 10+ proven people management experience
• 8+ years Educational Publishing experience, experience in assigned discipline area(s)
• Strong people leader who is able to develop, coach, and provide feedback effectively in a matrix environment
• Excellent project technical (psychometrics & research), project implementation and project management skills including proposal development, budgeting, scheduling
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and negotiation skills
• Excellent computer skills including MS Word and Excel. Experience with PowerPoint and MS Project preferred. Proficiency with various statistical packages and various specialty software (e.g. Winsteps)
• Ability to manage upwardly and to escalate issues and risks effectively.
• Ability to work under pressure, handles multiple tasks in various stages of completion, and leads others in a team environment.
• Knowledge of legal issues affecting special education placements and publishing of tests, research design and methods.
• Knowledge of curriculum
• Strong organizational skills and knowledge of sales, marketing, design, and production issues
Prefrerred Education and Experience:
• Ph.D, Ed.D, PsyD or other advanced degree in relevant field
• Teaching experience helpful
• Experience working in a K-12 (primary or secondary) education setting
• Experience developing assessment solutions for the K-12 market
Physical Requirements:
• Might be in a stationary position for a considerable time (sitting and/or standing).
• The person in this position needs to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
• Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
• Must be able to collaborate with colleagues via face to face, conference calls, and online meetings.
