The ADS Data Specialist reports to the Director, Application Support, within the Assessment Development Services unit in Pearson School Assessments. Application Support leads efforts to establish processes, best practices, and strategies associated with the various digital tools & applications used to author assessment content and analyze assessment data. We primarily support asset developers, editors, and psychometricians, both internal & external to Pearson. However our mission is guided broadly by the needs of learners, clients, and our entire assessment business. We collaborate daily with teams across School Assessment to facilitate continuous improvement in solutions & outcomes through the life cycle of authoring, publishing, delivery, scoring, and analysis/reporting.
Responsibilities:
• Assists in the development and maintenance of metadata specifications and validates that systems are set up to meet specifications
• Validates that metadata meets specifications
• Conducts change audits, validates and cross-checks that changes are made accurately
• Assists in the preparation of files for data analysis and with checking results of data analyses, applying prescribed criteria, and reporting questionable results
• Prepares technical reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends
• Validate that test maps conform to specifications
• Executes changes for test maps
• Assists in the development and maintenance of coding specifications
• Documents problems encountered and solutions developed
• Assists in the organization, documentation, storage and retrieval of archived data files
• Assists in the reformatting of raw data files
• Maintains user confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential
Qualifications
• Bachelors Degree (preferred) or Associates Degree with equivalent experience
• Evidence of successful completion of formal training in Excel can be provided as equivalent experience. The training must include used of cells in computations and data manipulation, not just data entry.
• Experience with and knowledge of Microsoft Excel
• Strong math, problem solving, and written communication skills.
• Self-driven with natural and highly investigative temperament for specifying datasets, seeking deviations, and identifying and reporting defects in data elements
• Experience with word processing and database software preferred
• Experience with application of programming language(s) in mining and analysis of large data sets a plus
