We have an exciting opportunity for an Editorial Assistant to join Penguin Random House! This Assistant will work with an impressive list of bestselling non-fiction titles for the Dutton imprint. Reporting to the Editor-In-Chief and Executive Editor, the Editorial Assistant will provide administrative support, edit manuscripts, and help oversee the entire editorial process.
Responsibilities include:
1. Evaluating submissions and drafting rejections.
2. Tracking contracts, payments, and manuscripts.
3. Writing promotional copy for all projects including title information sheets, flap copy, catalog copy, and online descriptive copy.
4. Preparing material for sales, marketing and art meetings.
5. Requesting author photos, fielding questions from authors and agents, and preparing photo insert logs.
6. Editing manuscripts for and in conjunction with supervisor.
7. Providing administrative support, such as maintaining editorial meeting minutes, scheduling meetings, booking conference rooms, making copies, filing, etc.
Please apply if you meet the following minimum requirements:
• 4 year college degree or equivalent work experience
• One year of editorial experience preferred
• Strong organization and follow-up skills
• Proven ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities
• Excellent verbal and written skills
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office and the Chicago Manual of Style
• Familiarity with Facebook, Twitter, and other social networking platforms
• Strong interest in nonfiction books, especially history, politics, military, biography, science, popular culture and journalism.
Salary for this position is $38,000. Full-time employees are eligible for our comprehensive benefits program.
