As a trusted industry tastemaker, The Bowery Presents produces dynamic entertainment experiences at dozens of venues nationally, presenting more than 2,500 shows per year.
Sound Engineers are responsible for managing audio volume and sound quality during live events. In addition to managing the overall sound during a performance, the Sound Engineer is responsible for the set up and take down of equipment, running of sound checks, the placement of microphones and placement of other equipment. They must also be able to integrate outside equipment to work with in-house systems. Sound Engineers also ensure that the sound system is working properly from start of day to finish.
Essential Duties Include:
1. Power on and ensure sound systems are properly protected and free of any unwanted buzzes, pops, or audio defect.
2. Assist in the setup of artists’ engineer mixing consoles, audio processors.
3. Manage and operate sound equipment during live event. Perform sound quality checks, equipment placement, regulates volume and quality of sound.
4. Assist artists’ engineers with safe usage of in-house audio equipment. Store and recall all work from sound check at the request of artists’ engineer.
5. Responsible for managing microphones, audio filters, audio mixer consoles, equalizers and reverb devices during a live performance or function.
6. Supervise part time production and audio crew: create schedule and oversee employees during show.
7. Troubleshoot and problem solve any technical difficulties with on-site repair, work arounds, or replacement of defective equipment.
8. Quick and safe pack down of artists’ engineer’s mixing desk, audio equipment at end of performance.
9. Run system checks on house sound system to ensure it’s free of defects at end of shift.
10. Alert supervisor to any issues that will need follow up or maintenance. Performs any maintenance at the direction of supervisor.
Required qualifications include:
1. A minimum education level of: Associate of Arts/Sciences Degree (2-year)
2. Years of related work experience: 4-5
3. Experience working on live productions
4. Must be able to work flexible schedule
5. Excellent attention to detail
6. Knowledge in multiple control surfaces: Analog and Digital mixing desks
7. Familiar with major Loudspeaker manufacturers product lines
8. Understand concepts of audio tools to measure phase, decibels, frequency analyzers
9. Familiar with room equalization and tools for measurement
10. Team player and able to collaborate with others and resolve conflict
11. Experience working as system tech for a major sound reinforcement company preferred
12. Experienced in engineering, working in touring or multiple venues preferred
13. Certification from any major audio reinforcement manufacturer preferred
